Im kinda sure Nokia won't disappoint us.
Why should Nokia stop supporting their brand new high-end device ?
Makes no sense imho.

This is GOOD NEWS if they do, and frankly one of many things they've got to do to compete with Google and in particular Android.
From looking at this link, I think the N900 is part of the free program too.

Whether they marketed this as "early adopters/developers/hobbyists" this is still a Nokia product, and they should have support for their product.

but than again, the n900 has just been released recently and there is room for updates and improvements. hopefully nokia will listen to their customers and add this extra feature to their device.
So many mobile phone companies and you pick that one which as one product model which has undergone 3 revisions .

Leaving that aside, you still do realize that they have just recently updated the firmware for the n900?

Hopefully there are a few more coming in the future which add additional features into the current model. So please do not stop raising issues with the phone, just make it a point to sound and be constructive instead, it helps us all eventually.

"In a call with Michael Halbherr, Nokia's VP of Social Location, we were told that the new Ovi Maps would arrive on the flagship N97 very shortly. It's currently a "software logistics issue" related to the maturity of the N97 device. N900 owners shouldn't hold their breath, though, as Nokia is focusing on bringing its free navigation service to the next generation of Maemo devices. That's not to say that the N900 won't get it eventually, only that it's not currently on the roadmap."

I am VERY unimpressed by these news and since I am still in my initial 14 day trial, I think this is going back to base to be replaced with another option from the competition.

Hope there is a clarification soon about this - is this pay to test???? Bring out the device and then not support it? Do they want to steer people away to other brands?? C'mon Nokia, wake up!!
It's look like Nokia does not care about N900. We are just beta tester, that's all.
N900 is not on the roadmap but I'm sure that the next maemo 6 device is in the top list for it. N900 is the high end nokia smartphone, just 3 months old and they just think about the next generation.
I'm very disapointed by nokia strategy and I'm sure I will be disapointed again when they will tell us that the N900 will not support maemo 6.

Bit of a sense of entitlement many seem to have..

It's coming to Maemo 6 at the latest and Maemo 6 is coming - gasp - in about half a year. My guess is that at that point either N900 will get Maemo6 or Ovi Maps will get upgraded on Maemo 5 regardless..

So IMHO, overall this is great news for Maemo as well.

The comments were by Vanjoki, not OPK, and he does not specify N900 though..

I'm also sure that the N900 will get it eventually, but eventually is not soon enough! Nokia should have released the Maemo version alongside the Symbian version...

Nokia's long term goal is QT, makes no sense (from cost perspective) not to develop using the latest QT. We'll end up being the alpha-testers for what will eventually be the new Maps App for all newer Symbian+Maemo phones..

I think we're looking out at least 6 months...

You could be right. In that case Qt will definitely be a dependency, as far as the N900 is concerned at least...
