...Yes it's true you don't need RnD mode anymore with the new rootfs 0.0.5-1, but this build the wifi is broken and there will be a new rootfs soon where thats fixed. If you want to try it out anyways just follow this link:

But first you have to disable RnD mode. You have to flash this code to your N900. It's the same way as flashing the zImage just with this code instead

@NITdroid developers
Can you add the g_ether module to the android kernel modules ?
With this module missing, the usb networking is not working in maemo mode.
And this is annoying when a windows desktop only is available.
