The Tab is getting cheaper. $499 w/ $50 free prepaid card. http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/...aspx?shape=tab

Price should be dropping even more soon. Time to lookup the dell streak 7 and compare

Dangit, I hope the Tab 8.9 nails it on Android side.

I've picked up the Viewsonic G-Tablet for its (early) hardware superiority and got utterly... utterly... disappointed by its build quality (cheap, thin plastic all around and unusably super reflective screen with narrow viewable angles).

I've also picked up the nook color... love its design and build quality.. would make a great kindle + evernote host... except that I've yet to find a good ROM for it. I'm not keen on 3rd party virtual key apps.. so it's honeycomb or bust for me for this one.

Now that my ipad2 order is actually shipping, I see a true contender from sammy... *slurp* (dang).

Did you try out CyanogenMod 7? So far I'm really loving it!

Doesn't it rely on virtual key app (softkey or whats the other one's name)?

I'm not crazy about the excess tapping for simple navigation.... ;(

Nope. CM7 has a Honeycomb-like MENU and BACK button up in the extreme right-hand side of the status bar up top. The ONLY problem I have is when something goes full-screen--but for that, I use the Nook's "N" (HOME) key to back-out to the desktop again. Eventually, Android will kill the app if you're not using it and you need the memory so there's no performance hit either.

HMM!

Sounds promising... except that they don't have a version for nook on their official website. I shall trawl the forums...

I hope so too. Unlike Motorola that rushed the XOOM to launch, I seriously hope that Sammy really gets down and polishes the final product. The form factor looks gorgeous and the specs should be great as well, making this quite a gem among products.

While 8.9" may too large to straddle with most people's fingers, it is so thin and light, that I doubt it will make a large difference in the end. Of course, you can't just jam it in your pocket like the Tab 7, but it should be comfortable to hold with one hand and use with the other.

Interestingly, the lack of tapering edges, may have allowed Samsung to sneak a larger batter in this unit. I also wonder if there's some new battery tech at play.

Anyway, I'm sure all questions will be answered later today!

The Amazon App store goes live! Then Amazon gets sued by Apple for trademark infringement, and the store goes down...

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/a...comers-with-f/

What was Amazon thinking? They should have done a trademark search. Thankfully, the 'damages' are minimal in that they were live for only a handful of hours. It will be interesting to see if this case will be thrown out, or if Amazon will be forced to pay up for this minor infraction.

My guess? They are going to call it Amazon Apps -- as they should have done from day number one.

Here it is! And before the blogs, I might add:

VIDEO: The Galaxy Tab 8.9:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-pPHGLtDCA

Wow, that sucker's thin... These are simply gorgeous devices... Notice how the previewer doesn't break a sweat juggling both devices simultaneously with both hands.

**** I WAS RIGHT! The 10.1" has been 're-designed' to be much thinner! Something tells me that they planned this all along.

Interestingly, the 8.9 is targeted for productivity, which I agree is perfect, given the more compact size.

The 8.9 has a 3MP camera on the back capable of 720p shooting. Something tells me that in an effort to be cost competitive, Samsung went for a cheaper camera.

More later, I'm sure..

EDIT: The video has been made private! Laptopmag probably got in trouble from Samsung for this leak. No matter, it will be only a few hours still before it goes public.

It looks as if the Amazon Appstore is back!
http://www.amazon.com/apps

Nothing too crazy, but it features the typical amazon styling. Lets see how well it does. Amazon can be heartily aggressive.

EDIT: Angry birds RIO is FREE for the next 18 hours! Get it while it's HOT.
