don't!!!
it might seem as a good idea, but the n800 will not give out enough power. what I did was get a battery powered USB hub. I cannot even plug in a simple card reader in the dongle alone! (a usb drive works perfectly though).

search for a power hub first.

it even has a NIT certification!

nice... but the flash drives are what requires the LEAST power. if it could work without a power cable for 2 sd card adapters, you'd make my day!

btw, i wouldn't recommend hacking into the device and increasing the max. output on the USB - might be critical on the device.

There are hacked kernels about that disable the check; but that doesn't permit increasing the actual power consumed; it is useful, however, when using some (poorly designed) hubs that have a power jack, but claim themselves to be bus-powered. Or, with a bus-powered hub modified to be battery powered. But the N800 will still shut the USB power down in case of an overcurrent, it just won't stop first from software, so it's not dangerous.

My N810 powering a USB hub, a USB Flash drive, and a multi-card reader reading a 2GB SD card. (I only have one card reader to test)

I noticed this when taking the above photo. I tried it with 2 USB drives and the card reader, My N810 automatically shut off USB. I had to unplug everything and plug it back in to make it work.

It can be done with a 9v easily, I'm not sure about AA's. Use a 7805 voltage regulator to give 5v power to the hub. If you want to use AA's you will need about 6 of them, or just the one 9v.

Obviously a 9V is the way to go, I just wasn't wanting to build one myself. I can't believe someone hasn't build a battery powered hub. (Rechargeable is overkill).

Im sure there is one out there somewhere...
I just do not know where and I'm the kind of guy who builds everything myself.
