Or, one could spin it slightly differently and say that a N900 tablet is never coming out, and there is no proof that Nokia will ever make another tablet.

You're right that technically the N900 isn't the same form factor as the N8X0, so yes one possible spin is indeed that Nokia has no new tablet hardware announced. :-)
