Morning boys and girls,

So another week gone and no new info. Seriously considering binning this. Too many potential issues with this phone that I don't think I'll be able to sort out. I think this may have beaten my limited technical knowledge.

Even if you could fix the problems, you shouldn't have to

Don't they realise that we will look very very carefully at what other companies have available and consider Nokia as a last resort next time? Nokia will likely not have the advantage next time that they have now, so pissing us off is not wise.

I really wanted to like Nokia (never bought one of their products before), but this has been such a farce I really will have second thoughts when it comes to buying the replacement for the N900, as all trust in Nokia has evaporated, before I even have the N900 in my hands.

There is no excuse for this, MPD are the face of Nokia to a lot of us (that's what franchises are all about) as they run Nokia Retail. So them not knowing if they are on their arse or elbows reflects really badly on Nokia - they should keep their partners well informed and not make promises they cannot keep.

Right now I can't even unsubscribe from the Nokia mailing list, as it says my e-mail address was not found in the database. Funny, as its the exact e-mail address they keep sending press releases out to.
Amen to that. I am not going to cancel my order with MPD because I can't afford to buy the handset sim-free and I really want the T-mobile deal I got with them, but they will NOT be getting any of my business in the future and I will not recommend them and will post on any forum going to make it clear my experiences with them. It's important that people are informed.

When I was on webchat with them yesterday I brought up this issue of 'exclusivity' with them and the guy said they were only exclusive for contracts, not handsets. Hmm. I am pretty sure they did not word it that way in their original advertising of the product, though I would have to go back and check on that.

If it turns out that I get my handset on the same day that anyone can walk into a Nokia flagship/retail and do the same, I will be mighty annoyed.

Get out of here then this thread is for us poor unfortunate loons that ordered from MPD coz we're too poor/tight to pay for a handset

Is it good?

NOKIA HAVE THE RIGHT TO A WINDOW OF EXCLUSIVITY

After all it is their product & as we all know they have used product exclusivity in the very recent past.

I sign into this thread occasionally just to see how many more mpd/nokia*retail* lies have been told. If you want your phone asap order with nokia. The real nokia.

If you want to wait then see carphonewarehouse / phones4u as it seems they may have it sooner then those retailers who "claim" exclusivity

Just my tuppence
The quotes below cover all the points I was going to make to reply to what you said.

They slashed it all over their website that they run the retail operation of nokia (or at least it gave that impression) and so it was my belief that they were truely going to be sending out the first phones, especially as they were the only ones stating exclusive delivery from their nokia warehouses. Very misleading advertising, the truth has only come out during this fiasco, and it must be very embarrassing for MPD.

If I have learned anything then it is to have a preorder on the go with anyone offering the product, first one to send shipping email wins, the rest get cancelled. If they turn up in store first then all pre orders get dumped and I pick one up first hand

Bottom line, I did not KNOW Nokia sold the N900 directly. The wording on the MPD website made it sound like they sold the N900 on behalf of Nokia in the UK, period. It was only later I realised Nokia did also sell the N900 directly both online and via their flagship stores.

Of course I wouldn't have bought the N900 directly anyway. I can't afford to buy it outright especially as I was getting a second T-Mobile contract next year WITHOUT a phone anyway, so this way I get the N900 really cheap.

But as others have said, its the lack of communication and clearly Nokia at fault as THEY put MPD in charge of 99% of their retail operations. You give a company exclusive use to setup a retail chain using your company name, you take responsibility for that companies actions.

As you so rightly point out, Nokia have a right to exclusivity. However they should make it perfectly clear what those terms are when telling MPD the date their stock will come in, not just leave them guessing. No matter how you look at this, Nokia are the ones who have caused it due to poor communication with everyone envolved.

Its definitely the lies that get me - if you don't know when you're getting it then just say you don't know!

I understand that Nokia get exclusivity etc, but if MPD get contract exclusivity, then its still unlikely they'll be beaten by Carphone Warehouse etc. I'm just going to sit it out - I'm another one in the T-Mobile camp. The deal just makes it too cheap to turn down. I'll wait, and maybe software issues will be fixed in the meantime. Looks like I'm stuck with Symbian for a little longer!

Still - you'd think as an official reseller in the UK, Nokia would treat MPD with some respect and keep them posted. I also don't get how different people from MPD seem to say such different things all the time. Anyone have an update from NFS yet? I'd be interested to see when they're expecting them in, as they're actually operated by Nokia!

Morning
the community will be all over any issues like a rash and I too am absolutely steaming about not having the damn thing in my hand but hang in there.
In fairness to MPD, there is nothing else to say, they said Dec 3rd, and although I hate it, we are not there yet, and all the speculation is from us wanting the thing early.

Alot of people have this phone and have no problems with it, though it is not really a fully featured phone - just dont give up as you will regret it

Agreed, though it might really help if they removed the 'delivery late November' sign they've had up on the N900 page for the last week or so. That's just false advertising.

Yeah I completely agree with that. I'm sure at one point it was changed to "Exclusive Delivery: December" and then it went back to "Late November" again. Why must you tease us like this?!
