I have to say that this thread terrifies me! :-O
I have only had my N900 for a week (bought from Nokia UK Direct) but the box has a black label, so I don't know which week build it is.
Has anyone had any official response from Nokia on this issue, and whether it was addressed at any point in the production cycle? Or are we all in the same boat?
If the USB connector fixing is as weak as has been suggested, it sounds like a high proportion of us are going to suffer having our expensive toys returned for repair at some stage.
Surely Nokia must have done something - they couldn't continue to sell N900's in knowledge of this weakness surely?
Here's my connector - a clear gap right the way around suggests no bulkhead restraint.

Same thing here. After only two weeks, one morning, I removed the charger connector and the microUSB thingie just came out. I took the phone to the official Nokia Care here in North Finland but soon, I got the answer: "our warranty does not cover this, it is BER (Beyond Economical Repair)".

That's ridiculous. In my opinion, you should kick up a fuss about this, complain to whatever the Finland equivalent is of Trading Standards, or consumer rights organisations.

I'm trying to find out from Nokia if I can return it to a European repair site for repair or replacement under warranty but so far I've only been directed to a US return address (and incidentally the Nokia web site tells me the device is out of warranty despite only being 1 month old!). I can't believe there isn't an address in Finland at the very least.
I've really enjoyed the device up to now - all other aspects of the machine are great - the O/S, GUI design, hardware features etc but this is realy an achilles heel and has me doubting Nokia's quality control.
