Could it just be a placeholder that they created just to be prepared IF the device appears?

It's not uncommon, and doesn't necessarily mean that the device 'exists', anyway.

EDIT: Sorry, This post was in reference to the picture of the guy holding the phone. Didn't notice how fast this thread is updated

That's hardly the only waves Elop-Nokia has been making lately. I believe pulling Symbian out of Open Source should count as a much bigger wave than not distributing not yet announced MeeGo phones can ever do.

Or, in other words, I don't think Nokia worries too much about stuff like distribution of devel-only devices. It's a parentheses within a digression from a side story in a cancelled book.

Looks a little too thin to be a nexus one. Whatever it is it's real thin.

That's a good point. I think that Nokia developers involved in MeeGo are in general quite fond of open source, and don't like that the company is moving to WP, but that doesn't change the fact they are. :-(

Also, a point of friction is that the first "mainstream" product that both MeeGo enthusiasts and common people will see on the streets, is this Nokia device, and well, is not really MeeGo. Apps developed for it will be fully API compatible with MeeGo, but the same can be said of Qt apps for Symbian.

Oh, and as I said earlier, Quim Gil's talk about the Harmattan device has been cancelled. That's probably a bad sign for any Nokia announcement this week or close to this week.
