Tanisha just called me from Amazon, she stated after doing research that if I wanted to cancel and place a new order ( to get the rebate ), that I will not be in the back of the line. According to her, no matter what all pre-orders of the phone will be fulfilled and it will be the regular orders that will have to wait for it. If you're a pre-order at the beginning, middle or end, we all get our N900's shipping at the same.
Just reordered and with a $14.72 promotion on top of that, I got it for $519.26 - $50 rebate comes out to $469.26

My last couple of repair shipments from NOKIA USA have been shipped via USPS mail. Since overnight shipping is no longer available I suspect they switched from Fedex or UPS to mailing out phones. If we get USPS tracking numbers they are almost useless.

I've never filed a claim with SquareTrade, but if you do go with them, I received the following discount from them:
"Beginning MIDNIGHT Friday Nov. 27 - 40% off all warranties at SquareTrade (first 10,000 customers only). Enter code HOLIDAYMAIL."

Thanks spinnukur for this tip. I actually spoke with an Amazon representative today as well, but I got a different answer.
What I was told was that it could not be guaranteed that if I canceled my order and placed a new one, there would be no difference in the shipping date. She said it would end up depending on the total number of N900's they receive and the total number of orders placed. Then once shipping starts, it will go in priority of order dates and the methods of shipping selected (ie super savers go last). She couldn't give me an indication on when orders might start being fulfilled, as to the best of her knowledge Amazon had not received any shipments from Nokia yet.
She did, however, simply go into my account and reduce it by $50 so I would not have to re-order...effectively an instant rebate! Overall, she was extremely responsive and helpful.
It's possible my rep just wasn't as informed as spinnukur's (although she did check with several managers to get the information), but in any case I might think twice about re-ordering.

Hey, thats wonderful news ... !! Instant Rebate .. Can you tell us the name of the person you spoke with, you reduced the price by 50 instantly ?
Also generally speaking, how do you guys call in to Amazon .. Although I have not tried speaking with them, my general impression about customer service people is that they are least helpful, and just tell you what their 'legal' information is ...
Also, what's this $14.72 something Amazon discount I'm hearing about .. ?
