I'm still unable to charge with the Nokia charger and external charger, however both of my HP chargers are working. Any other ideas on what I can do with this messy situation?

Is it possible that your nokia chargers have faulty contacts in them? Do they charge any other device? I've burnt one male microusb-connector when I had some crap in the connector. It wouldnt get good connection before I scraped the melted plastic of the pins/contacts. Also some melted plastic could be on the N900 connector and the usb-cable might be in better condition and get the connection, but more worn out charger connectors might fail. (Ok, this wouldn't explain the no power in usb-mode)

My N900 port broke when it was charging and fell down, because clumsy me, tripped on the cable and that was the end of that device as an 100% functional device. I couldn't live without my N900 device so I bought a second, second-hand device.

For this device I bought an universal charger, and for the working device I got a little sandpaper and got rid of those little metal parts that were supposed to keep the usb in place. And I did that until it takes no effort to plug it in or get it out. Now I use that port only for charging, for data transfel I use WinSCP.

Also my broken port was impossible to repair, I tried several local services and they all said NO! I got myself a professional soldering iron, I had left 3/5 pins on the PCB, but after i managed to solder the port back, the second time it broke, took away all the pins... so now, I just have a hole in my device.

Here is my universal charger.

P.S. If somebody can attach me a method for rewiring, I would be happy to try it!

So, after quite some time, I finally have my N900 (which charges perfectly fine, but doesn't seem to have data connection at all - which is an issue as I need to reflash the thing but I can't...) taken to a repair store and looked at. Turns out that the problem isn't with the USB port breaking from the mainboard - in fact, they resoldered the port, and, in USB flash mode, it still wouldn't be recognized on the computer (the computer, in either Linux or Windows, refuses to recognize the device as being there - lsusb doesn't show anything, etc.). Tried this with several USB cables and ports - same results. Any clue what's going on?

If it starts charging when you plug it into a PC without prompting for mass storage etc it means that whoever resoldered it soldered the data pins together, hence why you cannot reflash or connect but still charge...

I would suggest an i2cget command to check...

EDIT: Even better, plug it into a PC and type in a terminal
Code:
cat /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/charger
if it returns a 1 the soldering job is wrong, else check it returns a 1 with a wallcharger. If it does software problem, else something in the hardware

EDIT2: An N900 terminal in case it wasn't clear, not a PC one

Quick message...
My N900 micro-USB port is broken. Is it possible to solder or re-wire it back somehow? Photograph attached. According to a phone repair specialist, the micro-USB port has taken the pads from the motherboard, so it cannot be soldered back.
Best wishes. Thank you.

Just as the 2nd thread about repairing state, you need to either solder it to next components in line (cutting out part of shield), or solder it to the testpads under battery, and put port itself in it's destined place. The latter is easier, but in both cases, you need some *really* thin wires.

Also, don't try to re-solder the same port - buy new one, with full-sized legs. Save a lot of frustration, i know something about it

My N900 dropped while charging and broke usb connector. Then a guy tried to solder but it didn't work. Later, I opened lens cover, camera app started but I didn't get camera image (blank screen, only app buttoms shown). Do you think camera broke when N900 dropped or when solder?
Where can I buy a main board for my N900?
