NO, NO, NO, NO!! I asked for the bootmenu.conf, or info as to what was in it. You decided I was asking you to do "work "

Did I tell you to RTFM??
You told me to use the TEMPLATE that is in Fanoush's package and to guess what the correct parameters were to create the same bootmenu.conf you already have. So, yes, I would need to RTFM to get the info. Whay should I read the manual? I already used your DEB because I DON'T WANT to RTM.. do you get that part? You created a way for brainless idiots like myself to dual boot, but then effectively said, that we were on our own if we wanted to upgrade to Diablo but keep Chinook on the SD. GREAT support there ;-)

The reason you had to go through the pain is because you wanted the deb to do something it is not intended to do.
NO! I wanted to restore the BOOTMENU. Your package created that menu, so it was reasonable to ask you for help. Apparently, this is beyond you?

My deb is made for cloning, not just installing bootmenu. Fanoush's package is for intalling bootmenu
Your pachage CONTAINS Fanoush's package, but you have MODIFIED his bootmenu config examples. How many times does it need to be stated, I don't mind using Fanoush's package, but without knowing what was in the bootmenu.conf, it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to quickly get access to my data?

""bootmenu.conf" - which is NOT in Fanoush's package"

Yes it actually is "bootmenu.conf.n8x0.example" and bootmenu.conf.n770.example
Oh, ffs, how dim are you being now? They are not the same as your bootmenu.conf. I don't *want* to learn how Fanoush's stuff works, it's not a peice of information I need or want. I will use it once (now) because from now on I will not need to reflash my IT. I'll wait till Diablo is stable (asnd all the repos are working) and reinstall it to SD. But this will be in a few months time. In the meantime, your solution was to lose all my data. Great, THANKS for that.

I could make a deb to do what you are asking. I however have lots of stuff on my plate with what "I" actually want to do. Then there is that pesky job, and those 4 kids and a wife to contend with.

am I just being a dick again? It doesnt feel like it, but I am a bad judge
Dude, all I wanted was a little help. I didn't want to be told to go off and work it out for myself. You've already done the hard part for me ;-) All I wanted was enough info to install the bootmenu and have it working *exactly* as before as quickly as possible. All you needed to do was provide the bootmenu.conf and say "just reflash using Fanoush's package and this file", but you made it a LOT harder on both of us by being obtuse. In all, it took me less than 30 mins once I took it upon myself to open up your DEB file and find the bootmenu.conf. (opening a DEB in Windows was not a fun task, thankfuly 7zip does deb)

I have 3 kids, a wife a dog and a cat.. Do I win?

No worries, all sorted and it won't happen again to me because I know how to fix it now ;-)

I might sound like I'm ranting, but I don't mean to belittle your work. It's great, I love what it does, you are appreciated. A little bit of after flash support wouldn't go awry though!!

Hey, I asked a question and PB started answering in this thread. What would be the point in taking it to PM? How would that help anyone else who needs to re-install the bootmenu?

At the end of the day, all PB needs to do is provide the bootmenu.conf file for download and point us towards Fanoush's package. It's all quite simple thereafter.

It boils down to you bein a rude little ****, who nobody obviously taught manners to.

I assume you missed this too

The point is I have no reason to jump through hoops to give you anything. I have no obligation to provide you anything. you wanted me to sujpport something I did not support. If I wanted to explain to everyone how to do this I would have made a book instead of a deb.

Seriously how arrogant can you get!!!

Well, no, I don't look through the forums for a solution. But, you are a true star and I have always said that I appreciated your work. All I asked was for a quick, simple and non destructive way to put back the bootmenu after flashing Diablo.

Thank you a million times for doing this.

PS. I'm not little, I'm an overworked developer with a 2+ hour commute each way. I don't want to have to mess about with LINUX. I've no real interest in it. The IT runs Maemo as far as I'm concerned. I run Windows at work (*job*) and OS X at home (*play*).

I'm sorry you took such an offense. You have to see it from my point of view. I fully admit to flashing Diablo, I therefore screwed up my own bootmenu. I have no experience with LINUX much past dabbling. I wanted my Chinook SD install back to use it. It was lost. The prospect of re-flashing was looming. I don't have a spare SD card. I don't have the time to find out how Fanoush designed his boot menu scripy/config. It should have been much less heated and simpler to fix.

Thank you for making the extra package. I'm sure it's going to help loads of people.

The most important thing to remember... I just wanted to get the information in *your* bootmenu config file. If I had gotten it wrong, as per Fanoush's instructions, the boot manager would not boot my device. All I ever wanted was to reflash the boot menu. In all honesty, when you brushed off my request, I simply opened up the deb and flashed the file I found,. It worked, I was happy.

The reason this thread has carried on is that even though I kept saying "I like your deb, it's good" and such and that if you explained *somewhere* what was needed to reflash the boot menu, it would have all okay. You kept on telling me you were not interested and to go away. You seemed like you were being a dick, so I responded accordingly.

Look, I have no wish to argue on with you. I was out of line earlier. I appologise, even though I feel it was mainly a misunderstanding that caused the friction. If you in any way feel like I have some further pennance to pay, PM me and I will grovel at you feet or some such thing

Hmmm....

We'll, I'm very glad I took the time to pursue this section before I flashed with Diablo... I think I'll wait a bit. I did download it, and was ready to pull the trigger.

Everyone, keep in mind that Penguinbait accepts paypal donations.

I've already donated $20.00 for his very nice, chinook clone .deb.

Payday is Monday; I'll kick in another $20.00 towards a diablo clone .deb. Think of it as an advance.

Others, please also consider contributing.

Remember, anything of value is worth paying for.

Steve

Dont get me wrong I appreciate your enthusiasm. But please also remember Fanoush. I only made easier for some people his project. Without his work none of us would be dual booting.

So please consider donating http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/
All the way on the bottom right.

Thanks! It's hard to keep track of the giants.

How about this? I'll split the donation 'twixt both of you. Let us know when you have something ready for Diablo. No rush, eh?

$teve

BTW, is it ready yet?
