This behaviour might be the result of the battery's fuel gauge getting out of sync. See for example the section "Calibrate the notebook PC battery" here:
http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter...attery_max.htm
Of course, no one really knows how Li-Ion batteries work, so this procedure might lower you battery's capacity, instead of calibrating the fuel gauge.

Probably the easiest way to make sure it doesn't go to sleep and to make the battery discharge fast is to play a long video, right?

There is supposed to be some light sensor function with this advanced battery app, right?
I don't have that. I have an N810
And this feature (which I did a quick hack in python):

Pause when the charger is disconnected and play when it starts (like when using a car charger).

i know nothing and may be blowing smoke out of my you know what... but the oem batteries are not Li-Ion but are Li-Polymer see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-polymer "When compared to the lithium-ion battery, Li-poly has a greater life cycle degradation rate. However, in recent years, manufacturers have been declaring upwards of 500 charge-discharge cycles before the capacity drops to 80%"
