My last N900 (out of 5 since 2010)has finally broken it's USB port.
I sat down, grounded everything including myself, and did the solder repair.
Booted up got a wonky degrading graphics after the desktop icons appeared, waited a few minutes, shut down out of the weird graphics using the top button, rebooted into bootmenu.
I try fsck from bootmenu, mmcblk0p2 & mmcblk0p1 no such file or directory, looks pretty hosed my friends.
The burning platform has finally collapsed under me, what do I do now?
I really hoped that there would be another platform to jump to at this point, I use LineageOS with microG for my tablet but it is a kludge at best with an Android flavored non GNU OS.
Seriously considering hunting down another N900.
What now guys??.....

Get hold of another one/two!

Or go the Jolla way (still it does not feel right to me after all these years).
Leste is promising but we will not have the hardware like N900 (newer is not always better but I agree in terms of HW resources it is).

I think there may just be a fella who has almost 10 at count right now...
may be able to strike a deal with Maemish...(great name...)

and yeah Leste is coming along nicely...
it will be a welcome relief to run it when it is daily stable..

as far as hardware goes comparing n900 to anything nowadays...
well..
sure it has resistive touch...better than the standard fare from other current devices
sure it has the slide out.
sure it has removable card
sure it has easily swapped batt.

But 512mb
naw.

and just to throw a hive of bees into the conversation...
frankly the build quality of the n900 and its functionality is crap...
compared to the n810...
THAT was a perfect build. (I have 3 of them still in use...)
built with steel.
resistive 4.3 screen you can SEE and USE.
A BIGGER and BETTER slide out backlit qwerty keyboard.
just as good sd card and batt swap as the n900...
If anything...
I am surprised no one has gutted a n810 and put new junk in its innards...

don't need to go on...
I am sure some folks who had one will chime in ...

I have gotten used to 1, 2 4 and up in gb.
the nexus 5 I would suggest for an alt. device from the n900...
since the quality is excellent.
as well the specs are so compat. as to install a variety of alt. os's ..
up to and including Leste (when it is finished for the nexus 5 ...that is...)

Pennies to Loonies (Canadian Dollar is the Loony ...due to the fact it has one of our favorite birds engraved on the coin ....the Loon...which has a haunting call...)
The new Librem, which everyone and their 3rd cousin twice removed is stating they will make their os compliant to fit on the Librem (UT, PM, etc...have all said they are aiming to fit on the new Librem...)
So I would imagine Leste will also aim for the Librem...
(and I must admit...after enjoying the diversity I have with os's on the nexus 5...I know the Librem will most likely be the next phone I will get due to so many of the preceding factors mentioned...but for now ....and the immediate future I am in no hurry to get a brand new anything mobile...spending a ka-jillion Twoonies ...yup ...you guessed it right...the Canadian 2 Dollar coin ....)

From me you could get one. I thought I would ask 20 eur plus post costs. What country to send? I can ask from post office the cost (or my wife cause she knows everything).

But forgot to mention. Finnish/scandinavian keyboard. So there are ö and ä and å keys next to the backspace and enter keys.

= and å, ? and ä, ! and ö. Those special characters together in keys.

Thought I might catch you before you do 10 more posts with Scandi keyboard layout keys ...

Y'know Maemish...

There is an "edit" button at the bottom of every post one makes...
You can simply edit ...type in say..."update: " under an existing written post ...even add time and date if much has elapsed...
And put in your adendum ...

This is it when you write a lot smses. You can't edit them. And why I didn't remember the edit option? Cause it annoyed me when I edited some post and you as asked "we want to know why you edit". So that created as negative restore point in my memory which I - it seems - subconsciously recall every time I should edit a post. It makes me jump straight to repost. But now I have started to appreciate you and if you are annoyed about reposts over edits - new negative restore point created in memory. Let's see if it is more powerful than the other one and will make me to edit. Edit: I tried to edit this post from the middle but I'm using Opera on N900 and it doesn't let me edit the text from the middle. Another negative restore point created. I'm afraid yor annoyance is not yet powerfull enough to win this battle. Maybe if you would be more unpolite in your words?

naw I am usually polite...simply because that is how I am..
It takes a great deal to tick me off.
And deliberate direct offense at that.

How is this for reasoning though...
you can :

A- edit your posts...and if anyone demands a reason for it ...you can state the reason for the edit in said available field provided, cutting to the chase any demanding inquires...thereby making said inquiries pointless to make in the first place.
that is smart.

B- tell the demanding individual you edited and give your reasons...
that is polite,

C- ignore the demanding individual ...
that is perfectly fine

D- tell the demanding individual to piss off.
you owe an explanation to no one ...(unless your original statement was offensive ....then perhaps an apology may be wise...)

Or

you can continue with posting 2 , 3, 4, 10 + posts with a sentence or two in each ....that could have been added in an edit to make your instructions or argument or finer points make more comprehensive sense and ease for the viewer...
