The double dash is as given by the resulting error code, not the actual command.

you can omit this '-i 0x0fce ' part
it is to specify the exact connected phone. doesn't matter when you connect only one phone

OK, I got my Xperia X unlocked with the Sony given fastboot command, after moving from MacOS to Windows 10.
In windows the error was clearly my mistake as I got 2 digits switched in the unlock code resulting in (remote: Command did not succeed) On MAC OS this was not the case as direct copy / paste from Sony website.
The odd error on MAC OS hasn't been solved and I stand by my comment about carelessly written procedure for MAC OS: for example:
Install Homebrew using instructions on this link.
"brew tap caskroom/cask brew cask install android-platform-tools"
The above are 2 commands given as if they were one.
How are non-experienced users going to finish installing the android-platform-tools and if they ever do , how to get rid of them after they are no longer needed?
Ok now over to Sailfish OS Have a good day all, will be back complaining about missing parts later , hehe..

I tried to find the fastboot command I used from the history files but could not... I think I did it on a machine that's not reachable from where I am now.
However I am fairly sure I did just "fastboot oem unlock <code_from_sony>"

I wonder which version of android the SailfishOS 3.0 will upgrade to, some of my banking app are telling me that my phone will not be supported soon.

Yeah right, boycott or tax Orange juice and Harley Davidson but leave Silicon Valley untouched, that will surely speed up the development of a European integrated OS + messenger application after the 2009 Skype + Nokia tandem got broken up by Microsoft.

1. Have you enabled OEM unlock in developer options.
