Well, there are now two posts concerning the same topic. By internet standards it must be true!

What if walmart start selling personal EMPs? Buy a curved screen and you get a free safty EMP for free.

Is that legal? Do you need license to build EMP?

UPDATE-3/20/13:
After closely examining the FCC rules, EMPs are completely illegal in the US and all of its territories. According to the rules, EMPs are legal if used under one of two conditions.
1.You are a government official who is authorized by the FCC to conduct tests with an EMP.
or
2.You are licensed to use an EMP (or any radio equipment) in a shielded room or a Faraday cage.
If you use this in america or one of its territories, you can be subject to fines of at least $100,000 and imprisonment for at least a year. Americans, you are responsible for anything you do with this knowledge For anyone in another country, PLEASE read your local regulations before attempting to build an EMP.

What is an EMP? It's a device where once it's sent into space, thousands of volts will be sent to the electromagnet. Then it will concentrate its power on one spot on the map, blacking out the city and destroying any metallic or electronic devices. All without humans even noticing. Still want to do it? We can't go as serious as the description (I think that's illegal by both the FAA and the FCC), but we can build one that's legal (mostly), cheap, and works up 15 ft.

eDIT: damn it. There is NEMPs...nuclear emp. That sucks for sure! And might be a bigger threat than machines.

You cannot classify a sufficently andvanced AI as a "machine"

yea...the distinctions and lines become blurred and fuzzy...

The irony is...We'll become more machine in order to keep up with it..(which is postulated we may be able to do for a time)..communicate with it....help it to understand our problems ...and ask it to help us....perhaps there is a lot we can give in the exchange...from it's point of view...perhaps nothing...perhaps such interaction will temper the AI ...perhaps it will think US mad...or not relevant ...any and all possible outcomes can happen with each new rewrite it does of itself.....or ...who knows
In the end with the nature and definition of machines bein' pretty fuzzy-wuzzy and... it all getting fuzzy-wuzzier every passing year? half year? every few months?...

How do you know? To me, if it learned how to reproduce... it will surely reproduce machines.

Well do you classify yourself as a machine? Yet you are a machine, made of organic building blocks.
Similarily when you are going to meet the next advanced AI, it's not going to be a black/grey box just sitting on your table and quietly consuming electricity
