@zimon
What kind of backup of pfw folder do You speak of?
Afair there was no folder like that before I extracted the tar ball. So just copying the original html file back (and maybe delete some files) is sufficient.

apt-get install diffutils-gnu
for gdiff on N900

In Jiri's instructions:

...there is this tar-ball:
http://www.pittnerovi.com/jiri/hobby...00/maps.tar.gz
...which has pfw folder which will overwrite the old one.
Code:
# gdiff -r pfw.old pfw.jiri
Only in pfw.old/images: icons

Yes, I know. But as I wrote, I can not remember to have seen that folder /usr/share/nokia-maps/html/pfw before extracting the tarball --> in standard/default installation this folder is not present.

Can someone with a "fresh" N900 without modifications confirm that?
Or, if I'm wrong, zip that folder and post it, please?

For those who are really stuck, here is what I hope is the original html folder (as original as I have on my laptop )

You need the original index.html if you renamed (or removed) pfw directory.

I had the same after Jiri's instructions. Progress bar was going left and right for ever. When I closed: "bye bye".
Then I replaced Jiri's pfw directory with the old one which I do not know where I got from (from this thread), and after that Nokia Maps wouldn't get stuck in the progress bar and the speech works also.

Maybe the pfw directory should have all the files which are seen in the above gdiff list and Jiri's tarball is missing some?

This thread has grown so much that it's beginning to be difficult to find the useful stuff. Anyone willing to prepare a Wiki page?
