I would have to read the bootloader-modification license to determine if its free enough. The contract may just restrict re-distribution of a modified bit of electronics under a new trademark, which could be a formalized statement compatible with nearly every finalized device on the market. Of course it could also be much more sinister. The actual license will reveal all, I'm sure.

PS. I know nothing of the law.
This much I do know for certain: In the US, jailbreaking your own iPhone was deemed perfectly legal.

I'm not sure how that will relate to this specifically, but it's been generally accepted that rooting/jailbreaking a phone to be able to make it yours is LEGAL. It's certainly not something Sony Ericson should be claiming to be flatly legal or not.

Very cool! Thanks for the post!

I'm glad to see an AS3 VM at all. That it has been optimized is absolutely amazing. It also seems to put adobe's efforts to shame (rendering).

Impressive.

As it should be. The whole IP scene seems archaic. Here's hoping that things tend towards actual ownership upon purchase.

This is interesting:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/31/a...t-buy-for-400/

The Asus EEE transformer is only $400 at best buy!

What's most interesting?
It has an IPS display. This is so unlike ASUS, that has a reputation for terrible notebook displays.

Other notable features:
- 3G radio built in (as reported by some other sites)
- Detachable keyboard for netbook like usage

The price is extremely competitive, but I predicted this, right? PC manufacturers are very price-competitive, and will surely usher in the era of mid-end tablets. I'd say that ASUS and Acer will lead this charge.
Holly crap....this looks hot. I didnt know they were making a tablet.

I might get one....i can't wait 4 months for a tablet!

This looks like an interesting alternative to the stock music player:

The big problem I have with most Android music players is lack of FLAC support.

So far, the only player I have found that recognises FLAC is PowerAMP

Yes, flac support is key. I love my lossless tracks.

Interestingly, I recall having heard news of a VLC port to Android, which, if true, would have quite a smattering of video/audio codecs. Coupled with the correct interface, it could be quite a formidable player.

It seems that OpenFeint is bringing more games to the Android platform!

http://www.androidcentral.com/openfe...droid-platform

Here are the games:
  • Can Knockdown: 2 Infinite Dreams
  • Doodle Bowling: GameResort
  • Grave Defense Silver Free: Art of Bytes
  • Guerrilla Bob: Angry Mob Games
  • Meganoid: Orange Pixel
  • Ninja Rush Deluxe: Feelingtouch Inc.
  • Pyxidis: Hyperbees Ltd.
  • Return Zero (BETA): We came from Mars
  • Snail Mail for Android: Sandlot Games
  • Speedx 3D free&full: Hyperbees Ltd.
  • Stellar Escape: Orange Agenda
  • Stupid Zombies: GameResort
  • World Series of Poker Hold'em Legend: Glu
  • Tank Hero: Clapfoot Games

It's nice that quality App support on Android continues to rise.

I should mention that I'm not so big on April Fools, so the stories I post will avoid jokes.

Holy Cow! VLC is indeed rumored to be coming this month!

http://gigaom.com/video/vlc-for-android-demo-beta/

Google Android’s NDK has made it easier to run native C code with the release of Android 2.3, which should improve things, according to Duraffort. However, don’t expect VLC developers to take the easy way out and just cater to a smaller subset of device owners with the most recent version of the mobile OS. “VLC for Android will work for every Android version since 1.5,” he said.
Whatever the case, it may arrive pretty soon.
