Well first off, if you're going to throw out the accusation of "falls far below the standard of openness", it'd be nice to see some quotes from Google illustrating what they promised as it was several years ago?
I can kind of understand where Google is coming from with their reasons for delaying a release. So long as they release it, the "openness" remains the same. Can they use it to strong arm partners? Sure. Can partners try to strong arm Google? Absolutely. Which side do you believe?
On the other side of the coin, if Google let anyone use the code, with any modifications they wanted, they'd destroy the Android image, and everyone would be clamoring about fragmentation ruining it.
Same situation with MeeGo. Is MeeGo less open than Android? Not everyone can use it (and call it MeeGo). You have (or will have) a specification that you have to meet to be called "MeeGo". Would everyone be happier if Google released the code (with a specification) and said you can use it, but you can't call it Android if you don't meet the requirements? Probably not.

Am trying to copy the data right back on my tab where it was originally saved.
I reset my tab back to factory default and formated my internal memory......now my titaniumbackup was lost when I formated my memory thinking it was saved on my external memory.
I just happen to copy the folder mention earlier but am starting to think that the data file might have been on the internal memory.

I'll certainly try out ubuntu. In fact it's already on an sd card in my S7. Haven't got it to boot yet, but that's probably due to the S7 running 2.1 and a slightly funky kernel. Only played with it for about half hour, haven't given up yet, just haven't had time to pursue it further.
Looking forward to getting it (next week?) and playing for a bit.
