Well.. I downloaded and ran 0.16.1-1 and it's been working for me flawlessly, now! It fixed a whoooole bunch of problems I'd been working around before AND the CNET stuff seems to start downloading almost immediately. That's a pleasant surprise!

...except.. one.. thing.

Now, when I try to download any podcasts from the pay-for, password protected feed at http://airamerica.com/ondemand/podcast/6618/full I get the error, 'No module named getpass'. I didn't remove any python modules as far as I know. At the least, I would think that the gpodder deb would require any python modules it needed anyway. Maybe there was a typo or a correction made that caused this to rear up. Anyway--I suppose I just needed to let you know I see that.

PS - Also, I noticed that gpodder doesn't like the redirection to the proper mp3's from that URL's links either.. but that seems to be a separate issue.

I never run with swap turned on (I have massive problems with overall stability when I do) and I still used to see that happen whenever there are 12 or more podcasts to download. For me, it used to ALWAYS happen at 12 or more. I haven't had that many podcasts to download in a long time now so I don't know if it's still the case.. but it seemed as if gpodder was STRAINING and operating some kind of blocking operation immediately after you tap 'Download' and just before the downloads happen (maybe it was processing something just before the actual data downloads).

That's an interesting theory. It does not really fit with what I think is the problem. Currently, we do multi-threaded feed updates to avoid situations where the feed update is prolonged unnecessarily for a site that has a slow response time. I suspect that the reason for the reboots is that gPodder opens so many threads that the watchdog process starves and does not get CPU time until the timer runs out.

I have some ideas for how to improve/fix that, but currently lack the required free time, so stay tuned. For now, the "update single feed" button is what you want to workaround that problem.

gPodder does not use the "getpass" module directly, it might be an issue with the authentication of urllib. Please run "gpodder --verbose --maemo" in the X-Terminal and file a new bug report at https://bugs.maemo.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gPodder with the output attached (be sure to anonymize any personal information like usernames and passwords in the output). What would be helpful for debugging here is a traceback, and said command should give you one.

What exactly do you mean with "doesn't like"? Is it not working or is there some other problem? Please also file a bug report for this one at https://bugs.maemo.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gPodder with detailed information on what's wrong and what you would expect.

Hello, thanx for the great application!

I upgraded to latest gpodder version from the extras repository..
I found this new version much slower to update the feeds.
Did anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

The version of gPodder in Fremantle Extras-Devel has the new code for updating feeds, which is less resource-hungry and more intelligent with feed updates. The code in the newest gPodder release available in Diablo Extras should have no change with feed updates. Which version are you using?

How can I get the deb for this program? I look on the homepage and it redirected me to the download page on Maemo.org that has the install link.

I have gPodder v. 0.16.1-1 installed, and this sure is very slow on updating feeds...

Maybe i should try older version again from extras-devel if it really was faster.

Please do so and if you really can see a regression, please file a bug: https://bugs.maemo.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gPodder

It's available in Maemo Extras from the Application Manager. See http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras for instructions on how to set up Extras if you have not done so already. The install link on the Maemo.org Downloads page should also work, though...
