My coworkers just told me about Ship Happens in Sumas, near the BC-Washington border. There is also PackageExpress, also in Sumas.

Both of these services take shipments and hold them for you to pick up, so this might be a good option for vancouverites. I have heard fairly good things about both, despite their mid-90's websites.

At the very least this wipes out any import fees. Just make sure you dump your retail packaging before you get to the border

I was going to do something similar, but now the issue is purchasing from these sites using a Canadian Credit Card.

Really?
I haven't tried, other than the amazon link which said they can't ship to the address. I feel that amazon would take a canadian credit card (visa).

Amazon.com will allow a Canadian Billing Address (which is required if you use a canadian cc as the billing address and registration address on the cc must match) and then I can ship to a US address to pick up, but its 30 USD more expensive than BUY.com, which won't allow the canadian billing address.

It's only ~20USD now, thanks to the exchange rates

Buy.com = 565 USD (inc shipping) = 589 CAD
Amazon.com = 582 USD (free shipping) = 607 CAD

I'm not going to quibble over 20 bucks if it means getting an N900...

What about using Google Checkout with buy.com? They accept Canadian credit cards. I was going to do that when buy.com had the incredible N810 prices, but I got stuck at the American shipping address...

I don't think its available, and both Amazon and Buy.com charge tax to deliver in Niagara

Google Checkout is definitely accepted at buy.com, allowing you to use a Canadian CC. As for getting it across the border, that's another problem.

Weird, when I went to checkout it says Google Checkout not available for an item in your cart.

Aha, I just read the fine print:

"You can purchase most things offered at Buy.com, but because of the unique nature of a Google Checkout purchase, there are some restrictions: Google Checkout is incompatible with the following: ... Pre-Order items ..."

So that's the problem...
