what i did is i upgrade to win7 professional and download xp mode and virtual mahine. then flash n900 using xp mode.

Yepp that's one way to do it. Might be easier to just use the OS you already have.

I could not find it in Device Manager, despite everything seemingly working perfect.

This is not an option for everyone. Microsoft Virtual PC uses hardware virtualization and not all CPUs support it. Just saying, upgrading might not do the trick. Lower end CPUs, even quads don't have this feature.

You still have the option to use the upgraded driver, set up VMWare, multiboot.

yep! this is true.....i got a win7 pro laptop from a friend and xp mode does not support the version of the laptop.

Or if you have win7 ultimate you can run the xp virtual mode...
VM mode would not help. trust me i tried that a hundred and ten times

I tried that Virtual XP mode in Win7 Ultimate x64 and it didn't work... After I (dual) booted to my previous XP install it worked like a charm.
