Is that with the cpu running constantly at that frequency at 100% load? My cpu runs at 0Mhz for at least few hours a day during idle. About 12 hours a day at 500MHz at around 5-10% load. It never spends more than couple of hours at anything above. So it's near impossible to calculate how long the cpu will last. It's almost certain most other parts of the phone will last far less time than the cpu. =P

How do you overheat the battery? I know long term exposure to high temperatures is unhealthy for battery life, but, will the phone actually turn itself off if the battery gets too hot?

Also a BUMP, still looking for a dead-cpu-n900...

I've got a better idea. Instead of ruining a perfectly good device, give it to me while it still works!

I dont think its going to happen anytime soon, as long as the CPU temps off, well ambience and a bit of air here and there are set, i don't think anyones n900 is at too big of a risk, regardless of what people say. (ok 1.1ghz is a tad on the psyco side)

I've been running my N900 @ 1.150Ghz since day one... No crashes etc. It gets hot like a stove when you leave it at 100% for a long time though :P (in other words, never. only happened once and on purpose)

Jakiman, I too run at 500-1000 MHz on ideal, but with 3G and WIFI on all day, my N900 is flat after 9-10 with some medium usage.

I was wondering, with what sounds like heavy usage, you say you easily get 24 hours out of yours, is that with 3G and WIFI on the whole time?
