took me a while to poke at it to find the info...

what i wonder about now is how the acer deals with the "storage expansion" SD reader. that is, how hard have acer made it to use it as just another SD reader rather then a storage expansion...

in any case, it really tempts me...

I heard that you cannot boot from the SD slot. Let me check... Yep, you cannot boot from any of the two SD slots. Also the 512 MB RAM is soldered to the mainboard , that's the reason for the upgrade only to 1.5GB. Also there's no Skype installed in the standard software (of course you can add it, just seems strange).

Another interesting thing worth noting is that Acer Aspire One is shipped with two possible types of SSD - slow (with read 20-25MB/s and write 5-7MB/s) and not so slow (with read 30-35MB/s and write 12-15 MB/s). Looks like the white models are with the faster SSD and the blue ones with the slow, but that's not for sure. You can check whats yours by looking in the BIOS -> Information -> HDD Model Name -> SSDPAM0008G1EA is the slow one and P-SSD 1800 is the faster one.

The one that is advertised on BestBuy is 1G and 120G HD for $249. so the 512 MB is a moot point. "Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz / 1GB RAM / 120GB Hard Drive / Intel GMA 950 Graphics / Webcam / 802.11G Wireless / 2.19lbs / Windows XP Home" eeePC 1000/40G is selling for $673/buy.com, while eeePC 901 is discounted to $399. you get 2.5 Acer for 1 eeePC 1000/40G. Does $ talk?

Yeah, the 150 model is better but still under. Don't forget the battery, wifi, (the HDD is the same speed) and so on (forgot to mention the camera before - 1.3 for Eee vs 0.3 for Acer). Also you compare Eee 1000 with 40G SSD to an Acer with HDD. There's a 40G version with linux too.

I've got my 1000H (linux) in Bulgaria for about 450$ without VAT. 901 (linux) is about 30$ more. 1000 with SSD and XP should be even more. And I'm sure they're all cheaper in US.

The Acer is $350. The $250 price is via a Internet signup discount, which some people obtained fraudulently. That said, I agree that the eee is over priced in most, if not all configurations.

I just want to know. I got the early eeePC 701 and paid $422 on that. I still use it, not as much as my tablet. Why? Form factor. On the street, I stick out my tablet, in the car, sometime I will open the eeePC. My laptops, they are all sleeping in the house.

New, yes; used 701s, not so bad, if the little screen and big bezel don't bother you. The 9" models, IMHO, are less interesting as hack-toys, which is the only reason I got one. At this point, while I was pleasantly surprised with the keyboard's usability, I still see few reasons (other than hardware hacking, of course) why I'd pick one over the N8x0.

Some of the non-Eees are definitely getting close, but at this point I still don't see any of them looking like as good value (for my uses) as the N8x0.

This is one little example why I like my Eee 901 much more than my N810 to browse the web:

I don't think about theme settings on any page I personaly like. It just works (tm).

It works on my N800 regardless of the theme too... Slow, but works

I've always said that the front page is the main problem, not the forum.
