So it works, but I have no controls in portrait mode. (I don't even have a back button or a way to pull up the address bar without switching back to landscape.) Is that what everyone else has? Are there hidden controls I'm missing?

why do you think it was easter egg, not functionality "out of the box"?

when using browser in portrait mode u cannot use back button or get the menu up........

I'd assumed it was because they hadn't fully tested it or done UI optimisation, etc. I wasn't expecting there'd be no controls at all. (Even crappy squished controls would have been useful.)

Note, I'm not complaining, just surprised and would like to know if there's any way to do things like go back and bring up the address bar while staying in portrait.
