virx14, you convinced me to bite on that GPS unit. I ordered it through their amazon.com storefront though. I'm a little unsure about vent mounts in general, but it's free so I'll see how it works. Thanks!

Did you use the Pharos i500 GPS with OS2008 or OS2007?
I can have a good deal on the Pharos PT250 and I am very interested in knowing how it works with the N800/OS2008.

Thanks,

I went with this:
http://www.buygpsnow.com/haicom-hi-4...r-gps-625.aspx and it works like a charm... only draw back is that it must always be in the car :-) but hell, why would i need it outside the car anyway... never on foot to get lost!! it pairs up with N800 (w/ OS2008) just fine and works beautifully with Maemo Mapper as well as the map application built in OS2008.

Thanks.

With these GPS thingys, do you have to pay for maps - or are they available for free? If so, for US only or everywhere?

Thanks for adding to a thread instead of creating one.
Most GPS come with some maps, however Maemo Mapper is a very good application which works with free, easily downloaded maps.
For instance my Garmin 320 came with maps, but costs $50 or so for a new set. Maemo Mapper provides maps, imagery, links to Google etc.

FWIW, I've tested my cheap Sirfstar-III based bluetooth GPS with Maemo Mapper on my N800 (OS2008). Works fine. These things are fairly generic these days.

For those in the UK it's the Nikkai
one from Maplin's, code A09FN. Currently 40 quid.

I see. Well, my dilemma is that with norwegian prices for something such as a GPS reciever, I will have to import from somewhere. By doing that, I doubt very much they will come with norwegian maps xD Seeing i dont really need a gps, but could surely pay 60 bucks to have one for the times i need it, i wouldnt buy a reciever unless i knew for sure i wouldnt have to lash out with money for maps.

edit: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8840 will most likely be what i order if i can get free maps
