As discussed here
Nokia doesn't allow to change the icons in the left bar. It will always display the Internet and Contacts icons, whether you want them or not.
It's not a big deal, but if people know about how to customize the left bar, I'd like to know.

Not entirely correct. The UI will always want to display two taskbar plug-ins plus the application menu in the top half of "task navigator" area, but which two plug-ins are displayed is configurable via the "panels" control panel applet.
As far as I know the only other plug-in available at the moment is the "hello world" one, but do give it a try to see what I mean.
