I could tell you but it's a lot easier to just compile libstartupnotification as it actually compiles now :P

I tried compiling startup-notification (v.9.1), and it seemed to compile OK (./configure, make, make install).

But pcmanfm still complains about it missing...

Any clues?

In a scratchbox:

Code:
apt-get install devscripts
dget -x http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/startup-notification/startup-notification_0.9-1.dsc
cd startupnotification<tab> (something like this)
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
Install debs
You may have forgot to supply "--prefix=/usr" to the configure line on the compile you did.

Thanks qwerty, that worked just fine. I compiled it, and it works OK. No crashes to speak of (well, except for the preferences dialog). Looks a little funky, but seems to work!

So here's the new question of the hour: any way to get pcmanfm to stop complaining about no XSettings Manager running, and get it to display icons properly?

Got some time before I start college...

Will try and finish this one off soon (libhildonmime integration, etc.).

(And, yes, it is utilizing gamin. I could care less about inotify. )

Stopped it from crashing when opening the preferences dialog by adding a simple g_debug
