yes PIM is very much needed, even tho i don't needed anyone with a touch of common sense can see how much more popular they would be with a complete and integrated PIM suit even palm sees that with their garnet VM, but i don't really see where they are trying to go with that, seems they should be doing other things like finishing their supposed linux based OS :P.

The garnet VM is produced by Access, tho company which bought palmsource. It has no connection to the company Palm. Access and Palm are both working on linux systems for mobile devices. I believe Access has finished theirs but hasn't licensed it to anyone. Palm is still working on theirs.

First, thanks for the post!
I must disagree with most NOKIA hardliners, but this kind of posts are necessary and also very useful. If you don't want to read them then don't! But exactly as the author wrote he is just a user not a developer.
And WE users have different priorities for the devices we use.

I also have another question for Benz145.
I'm in the exactly the same boat and I'm considering buying the ipod touch. The most important question for me is if there is an ebook reader for the device. I would greatly appreciate a screenshot of the ebook reader in landscape mode.

Thanks

Also, the name of this site is Internet Tablet Talk. I would say that anything that discusses something that could be described as an Internet Tablet is a legitimate topic. Not many of us have taken a blood oath to Nokia. I haven't.

kvakvak, afaik right now there is only Books.app ( http://code.google.com/p/iphoneebooks/ ) for the iphone\touch that supports very limited formats and no landscape mode. Some people use a hack that makes use of Safari's ability to read pdf\doc\xls to read their materials, but I don't think it's worth bothering if you're just a casual (e)book reader. Better wait for proper 3rd party app in about 2 months time. (There's even gonna be MS Office for iphone? http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...hone_apps.html )

A good blog about ebook devices (including iphone, among the devices that he owns):

Exactly. Whatever one is better for you depends just on what you need from it.

It doesn't seem to matter how often those words of wisdom are spoken here-- there will continue to be those arguing that their personal usage trumps all... and that we all need to buy The Device That They Like.

I think this is a very good point you bring out Sachin.

I am not sure of Apple iPhone - since it does have a unix OS on it, but again maybe it does not support multi-tasking, by design.

If that is indeed the case that is very reminiscent of how PALM succeded and failed too for the same reason. Intially PALM OS's simplicity was a winning factor - all apps loaded in memory - startup times are fast and neat and plenty of apps.

Gradually as needs become more complex and phones evolved to be able to multitask, PALM started sliding and its simple OS structure became its achilees heel. They just couldn't overhaul the whole OS to make it compete with more modern multi-tasking OS's like MS Windows Mobile etc orembedded linux based ones.

Eventually we all know where PALM lies now - forgotten nearly in the smartphone, and PDA markets.

I find it hard though to believe inspite of the unix based OS on Apple prods, that it also does not support multitasking. Is that really true again ?

However, for some of us we would rather run apps one at a time with incredible responsiveness, than multiple low quality apps that don't function well at the same time.
I have to concur here. Yesterday due to work I "had" to use my N800 to play tunes. So I used xmms (which has it's own problems which would require another post altogether) to play some mp3's I have. Every now and then the music would stop. I finally figured out that it was refreshing the RSS feeds. Then I made the mistake of checking my blog stats. Stutter city. I even think the music slowed down. The processor spiked and then the battery was done.
