Thanks!

Got this working perfectly.

But it should be wget -O /usr/share/applications/hildon/xvkbd.desktop http://mrrau.dyndns.org:23280/n800/xvkbd/xvkbd.desktop

not

wget -O/usr/share/applications/hildon/xvkbd.desktop http://mrrau.dyndns.org:23280/n800/xvkbd/xvkbd.desktop

Btw, ur desktop is the opposite of mine (cluttered) lol

Okay, with this deb file I was able to install your keyboard all fine and dandy.

I have a menu selection for this now that's located in the Extras folder but it doesn't have a special icon for it.

Anyway, after selecting it from the menu, nothing happens.

It's been over six hours now but still nothing.

Is it suppose to take this long? *lol*

Well, is there something that I can type in Xterm to see why it's being all fussy still?

And yeah, I even tried qwerty's suggestion as well.

Thanks.

Run it from the console as root.

You will see what libraries missing (unable to find libXpm.so.4 etc so run "apt-get install libxpm4")

Hey qwerty!

All I thought of typing was this in Xterm.

xvkbd

What should I be typing since that doesn't work?

Thanks!

Hey KotCzarny,

Side question... Where did you get that theme!!

It's so clean, I bet it saves memory and things load faster.

Thanks

Okay, duh!

I didn't type root first before xvkbd in Xterm.

*Smacks forehead*

Turns out that I also needed libxmu6 which I picked up over at ArnimS's site.

Works great now even though it took 2 days to figure this out.

But hey, at least I'm not bitter!

Thanks all!

It works great but I have one problem: when used in a hildonized application,
pressing enter (return) invokes the hildonized virtual keyboard instead of
send a return, and pressing again minimizes the hildonized keyboard. Is there a way to send a return to the application from xvkbd?
It would also be nice if by pressing with the stilus and dragging one could move xvkbd around the screen. Thanks!

Humm? Hitting <Ctrl-m> instead sends the desired "return" key... at least on input to an xterm. But neither this or "Enter" works for input to a hildonized app. I tried it with the mac emulator BasiliskII and for this the "Enter" key works as expected.

@addison: hmm, it shouldn't require a root to run, most probably /usr/local isn't in user's PATH moving it to /usr/bin or running with:
Code:
 /usr/local/bin/xvkbd &
should work in terminal

@yadin: that's how the hildon works, because dpad center button is mapped to 'enter' (most hw keys send regular keys). for dragging, hum, you can try adding to the cmd line
Code:
 -geometry +80+300
better fix is doable but requires adding code to source

@delaroca: hmm, true, i wonder what input it expects for simulated 'enter'.. maybe some dbus message i'll investigate it
btw. for quick sending ctrl-m use quick modifiers: press m and drag it to the left
