I just commented over on UMPC Portal, where they're talking about being available via greymarket import... and I said "if only it was a little smaller, and had a better OS".

But, at least it's a MID-type design with a tilt screen :-) That part's good!

Maybe eventually someone will finally get all of the features I want into one device. Maybe. Eventually.

Today's UMPCportal article on it:

Exactly what I've been saying about toothpaste for years. Ha.

This is an overpriced waste of an Intel Atom processor...can somebody yank it out of there and plug it into an Asus Eee?

Just looking at Vista on the device makes me despondent, but then what else is a manufacturer to do? There really is nothing else at this moment. The only other option is XP and that reaches the official end of life next month. Let’s hope Mobile Linux comes through soon with something worthwhile.

I had always felt that Sharp’s flirtation with Linux on the Zaurus was a resounding success, the open source community transformed the operating system and mediocre software into something exceptional. But then Sharp pulled the plug.

It is hard to fathom sometimes why these huge organisations reach the decisions they do but they didn’t get to be so successful by being dumb so who am I to judge.

Can't believe I didn't see this earlier...

For years now people have been accidentally turning their embedded devices into bricks. Now Sharp has done us one better and given us one that actually *is* a brick.

Even the title of the thread makes me laugh. The n810 should watch out. Darned D4 Vista bomb is big enough to crush an IT flat...

Cheers,

That was painful to watch. Until MS brings back XPEmbedded (even if they call it VistaEmbedded) for devices like this, I just cannot see any of them being a success. Talk about SLOOOOOOOOW. It certainly isn't usable in it's current form - scroll and wait 2 seconds for screen to catch up, scroll and wait 2 seconds for the screen to catch up. Hey, it just took 5 seconds to see the third icon from the right. I don't think anyone would be interested in that!
