Hello All,

1.1.0j-3 is available in extras or at the garage. It fixes the Locale bug reported by Sevo earlier in this thread.

cheers,

Hi Kernelpanic,

How do you use address lookup? I only get a message with "No related map could be found".

If I try to find an intersection, the application crashes ("Segmentation fault" in Xterm).

At this time Address lookup works with Tiger maps only. Rewriting for OSM is going to be interesting. Tiger maps are by county and zip code. When you search an address, it knows which maps are in the state your address is in and thus knows which group of maps to search. If you specify zip code, it pretty much knows which exact map to look in. OSM maps are by coordinate/maptile. So there's no way right now for the App to know which map database to look in for the address. (for OSM online address search via google maps may be the easiest option...)

This is one of the reasons that RoadMap is marked Beta/Stable at the garage. The program is Stable and the features work well with Tiger maps, but OSM support, (having just been added) is in Beta.

As I get reports of what works and what doesn't, I'm going through the code...

thanks,

Thanks to you. You are making a wonderful product.

Here in Argentina we only have access to OSM maps and your addition was a big improvement.

I am having trouble seeing downloaded maps. I used the getMaps to DL maps around my current position. It seemed to download 99 tiles to the mmc1/roadmaps/default/.. location. However, opening up the Maps software shows nothing in the location (did Find->Position and entered lat/lon). I also tried increasing the bit to 27 in getmaps but didn't do much. Any help on this?

thureen- in another thread I documented same problem. Seemingly exact same symptoms.

For me the maps worked until yesterday or day before then stopped displaying. Like you I get no errors in getmaps program.

I have tried vesions 1.1.0j-2 and -3

There's something wrong on the server side. I'm testing to figure out whether it's the binary proxy or if openstreetmap.org changed something. I'll post back when I've figured it out. On the bright side, the error isn't in Roadmap... (On the other hand, if the problem's not in the app, I cant fix it )

cheers,

o.k. everfybody,
here's the deal. doing a manual wget gives us-
Excessive usage of useragent Wget/1.10.2=25924, what are you doing - downloading the whole world? email me to explain yourself, access removed
Now, I did get permission for us to use the server. But if we're straining their bandwidth then Roadmap needs it's own PHP proxy(s) period.

Any volunteers to host the script? It does use some bandwidth and disk space...

[EDIT] I've emailed Adam at the whereami project. We were hammering the h*ll out of his server to the tune of 2 gigs a day. Since there was only 7 gigs free space on the server, he was having to empty the cache several times a week to keep the server up. That's too much for any one server.

Ideally, it would be nice to have six to ten servers, with users choosing server based upon region. So that if for example a server is for people in Managuador, most of the maps in the cache will be for that geographic area, as will the users, minimizing bandwidth and maximizing the cache usage.

Any one who wants to host the script for their region PM me. It requires Apache/PHP with cURL. Adam is rewriting the proxy script a bit to allow for it to store the entire planet and update weekly. So I'll likely wait until he's got that working so the proxies don't hammer tha main OSM API...[/EDIT]
