You SHOULD buy one. Your post about careful with reliability is not without merit. However, just like anything in life, if you cannot affort to take chance, you backup and backup. Most other stuff, you download from maemo.org any way. Go for it, as I posted on the other thread, to clone it is less than 10 min, provided you already have a ready to clone system. I made this one 2.4 G and planning to play with KDE again, and still have 5.5 G left behind and use NO adapter, it is a miniSD, compare to my already full 4G microSD with adapter!

Great to hear that it worked out for you Bun. You mentioned that you bought you also snagged a Kingston 4gb from buy.com? Well I recieved my 4gb today and I could definatly see a difference in the build quality between the two. The Kingston is clearly a better put together card. I dont know if that means anything with data retention or failure rate, but it just didn't look as flimsy as the Patriot.
Still, a deal is a deal!

@Crabolsky: Good to hear about your purchase. Shame on me, I got the 4G a couple weeks ago, and still sitting in the drawer gathering dust. I dont know what to do with it. I do not have another N810, and I have quite a few fullsize SD for my N800. Well, let us know how your 4G card turn out.
Are you going to play with KDE? I am planning to. I partition the 8G into a 2.4 G initfs and should be enough for KDE installation.

KDE looks like fun but I don't think Iam game to play around with the install just yet. My card will be purely for media!

Well, I bought the Patriot 8GB mini SDHC card on May 20, and it worked well for almost 3 months. The card is no longer detected in the N810, nor can it be read on my PCs. I've sent a mail to Patriot support to see if I can get a replacement.

I'm not sure how successful that process is going to be, and I've ordered the same card from newegg while I wait.

I can't believe I lost all that data on the card though. I had a bad feeling about it, and wanted write a script to back it up, but could not decide if I wanted to push or pull (start the backup nightly from the server), but I got caught up with other activities instead. Oh well. Now I know.

I had my share of problem yesterday, out of nowhere, the card wont boot any more (I had KDE/Debian/MMC boot on it). I sent the thing back to newegg.com and is waiting for a replacement. BTW, newegg warantee for memory card is one yr. I guess may be the manufacturer is going to treat you better? please post back on your experience. I just shipped my out today. Well, when there is a lot of people say so, it is probably TRUE, I do lost data and programming time too....

If patriot failed you should go back to newegg. Go to their webpage, log in your acct and click on RMA, they will automatically search for your invoice and generate a RMA number. You do have to pay for your own shipping, it was $1.49 for me.

It's funny that the regular SDHC cards go down on price but not the microSDHC or miniSDHC, and don't even talk about CF!

I have my cameras with CF, Memory Stick,..N800 of course with SDHC.

I am thinking using micro-miniSDHC adapters and microSDHC cards for my future N810. But I wonder the adapters which are included with 2G or 1G microSD are compatible with microSDHC cards or not. Does anyone know?

It looks like microSDHC more available than mini SDHC.

I had a couple Patriot SDHC cards and had bad luck with them also!

Well, I only have 1 trouble with Patriot, that is the miniSD. The other patriot works fine, so far, almost a yr by now.

I have interchanged with any adapters, except Sandisk, and they all work. 1 G, 2G, SDHC, whatever, I have not paid particular attention to what brand, kingston, patriot whatnots, as long as phyically fit, they work. There is one catch though, the sitting of the card is paramount. You have to jam it in so hard, that you worry they are about to be broken, then it work. I am serious. so far, I have not broken anyone, but if it wont work, I jam it in a little bit, it will work.

Another catch, the lock button may get loose, after awhile and there is noway, I can make it stay, so those adapters are tossed. You can put it in the unlocked position, but it becomes lock when inserted.

Me too, I am looking for some CF. I found one $15 shipped and ordered, http://www.focalprice.com/Elite_Pro_...014B_1105.html.

Oh, I also found ebay selling 2G RS-MMC for under $10 shipped (I hope, ),

http://search.ebay.com/search/search...fsoo%3D2&fgtp=
I may order some.

Yeah, that's the very first memory card that's ever failed me, and I have a drawer full of SD, MS, MS Duo, MS Pro Duo, CF, CF2 cards. I don't even recall having any HDDs fail on me either.

I find it strange that a memory card can just fail for no apparent reason. It's not like I've ever taken it out of the N810 before. Once it's in there, it stays in there for good.

I'll wait a day for Patriot to get back to me on the RMA (5 year product warranty), and then I'll try newegg for the RMA. It's only $30, so cost isn't an issue. It's all the lost GPS tracking data (that I wanted to use with geotagging), lots of xournal good sketches that my daughter did, my maemopad+ lists for everything important to organize my life, some voice recordings for meetings that were recorded, etc.

I think I've decided to write a pull-script to backup the N810 from my Linux server at home. I'll post those cron scripts here when they get done.
