The latest maemo release on the website http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/ is now working. Far more stable than the early release.

Can't believe I missed this one

Yup - latest version works. Pity the deb doesn't [Qwerty - can you package it up again and stick it on extras?]

About extras, I'll get in touch with X-Fade sometime.

well, the real question is, how can i get this to work with libpurple in telepathy-haze/rtcomm beta? :-)

vi /usr/share/osso-rtcom/facebook.profile
Code:
[Profile]

...not working. Can go through the setup wizard, but have no account in the list when i press finish.

[ANNOUNCE]

I can happily present the latest version (1.18) of Eion Robb's pidgin-facebookchat compiled for maemo.

Changes:
  • Newer.
  • Package reflects upstream package. (with some maemo twists)

Remove the old package before installing. (That shouldn't always have to be done, it's that I made a lot of changes to the package)

The latest 1.18 version is compiled by me in scratchbox using the CS toolchain and the pidgin maemo port headers. I don't use the ARM plugin already compiled on the website.

I've made many changes to the package:
  • The package name is now the upstream name.
  • The version is numbered properly. (So 1.18 is newer than 1.8 in this case)
  • instantmessaging section is used instead of net as the rest of the pidgin stuff is in instantmessaging
  • The application manager now lists the proper install size (mostly anyway)
  • pidgin is now listed as a dependency
  • The old package with the dodgy packaging will (hopefully) be removed. (But I still recommend to remove it manually before installing this anyway)
  • I'm listed as the Maintainer (for the maemo version) but Eion Robb is the XSBC-Original-Maintainer.
  • Description (taken from upsteam) is there.
  • You get a pretty name (Pidgin Facebook Chat Plugin) instead of pidgin-facebookchat displayed in the application manager.
  • I made the application manager display the facebook icon for the package.

Want to know the biggest change/shock?

I removed my Ubuntu and recompiled and packaged under Windows :O:

Have you gotten anywhere with this?

Where did you get the protocol name from? bigbrownchunx-facebookim

I can't find any reference to that other than bigbrownchunx doing work on the plugin for pidgin.

Also my failed steps were trying both libfacebook.so and libfacebookarm-1.27.so to the /usr/lib/purple-2/ directory and hoping haze would just pick it up and run with hit.

I've tried using:
Code:
Protocol=facebook
Code:
Protocol=facebookim
Code:
Protocol=bigbrownchunx-facebookim
all to no avail with the copied libs. I'm either missing a simple "Protocol" name, or it's a lower level library link thing, which I haven't had time to explore.

Anyone have an idea? I would love to get facebook chat on my native IM app, which would let me call friends when our conversations about other friends get's um, heated...

Thanks pakr for the direction, hopefully we can figure this out.

No, i gave up, probably something needs to be compiled into somewhere, or i have a stupid error in the files somewhere.

If you run "HAZE_PERSIST=1 HAZE_DEBUG=all telepathy-haze" from the comand line, you will get the list of protocols found by -haze (I did not install facebook after upgrading to diablo, so it's not in the list):

telepathy-haze[2349]: GLIB MESSAGE default - [info] stun: using server
telepathy-haze[2349]: GLIB DEBUG default - _init_protocol_table: Found protocols zephyr, qq, msn, gadugadu, icq, irc, yahoo, simple, groupwise, jabber, myspace, aim

This returned the same information to me. I'll pursue this mildly until either rtcomm is updated or facebook get's jabber.
