I think I should heed the caution of benny1967 and make do for now. I did keep the old file and have restored it sucessfully. Since I have only swapped out about 5 of the 100+ albums I can live with using file manager to open the last few that I changed.

lardman, I think you think I have a *nix os on my desktop. I wouldn't admit it here but (whisper) I have XP and so could not unpack a deb. However, your and other's responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hey, It's may 22 and the problem is the same: no library updated. mine n800 keeps a msg saying updating library (I don't know the real english msg) forever!!
I tried to replace the crawler: apt-get remove the osso stuff, sudo dpkg the deb from bugzilla post and then apt-get install the osso stuff back. no use, even rebooting and testing after each step.
somebody help me. I hate the others players, want to keep the standard one.

I've read over the same instructions for the fix and I feel lost. Mine does not try to refresh even after deleting the media data file. This really deserved a fix from Nokia.

When I worked at a major cell phone manufacturer, a software defect of this magnitude would have forced us to RECALL all the inventory for reflashing.

How long does it take Nokia to fix a highest-severity bug? If it's a Nokia cell phone, the answer is probably "hours". If it's a Nokia Internet Tablet, it seems like the answer is "never".

Where is the .meta-storage file located? Media Player recently lost my library. I've tried restarting metalayer-crawler0, but it just crashes (I assume). I'd like to try deleting the .meta-storage file next.

I don't recall with certainty since I deleted mine and it has not rebuilt a new one. But I thought it was in /home/user.

Ok. I looked around for it a bit (including in the home directory). Maybe my file disappeared for some other reason.

I've added step by step instructions for how to fix this bug on Bugzilla. It's worked for me, let me know if it does for you.
