Shunjiro Eguchi isn't going to like this, but I got bored and edited N97 a bit. Here is N900 with N97-design and bigger screen and only one button on the front for press+touch combinations (press button+tapping screen for right-click or press+slide for .. brightness). Screen ratio is 16:9 so either 853x480 or 1024x600 , N810's size would be ideal here.
The button is for left handers on the right side (attention please: wordplay). But the other people are left (again!)...

LOL ;-)

edit:
i´ve deleted the navigation button. now the entire front will serve as navigation button (press the upper side -> scroll/go up... press the left side -> scroll/go left... and so on)..
also moved the nokia logo to match a little bit this device: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thought...ol-856734@N24/

As a N800 owner, I agree it's too big for a pocket device.

Good job on the graphic!

The modded image you made looks VERY similar to the device that was featured in a slide at the Maemo Summit (I think) when discussing Fremantle (aka Maemo 5 aka isgonnarock). I recall the no-bezel front and the NOKIA logo arranged the same way on the device. Iirc the colour of the device in the slide was black, or a dark grey.

Does anyone know of the slide I'm referring to?

I think widescreen would be nice in the next one.

I think the next big thing will be voice recognition software that will make keyboards on these devices less necessary. If Nokia hasn't put money into making this happen on their next version devices...they should. The technology is just too far advanced not to do it. The big problem with implementing it is going to be patents. But, heck my cell phone from 5 years ago had voice recognition dialing...why can't my internet tablet have voice recognition internet surfing, etc?

7' screen 1024x768, a usb port for reading thumb drives and keyboards, and game friendly control buttons. I really want a large screen Nokia device. It is needed for the full browsing experience.

Not to argue, but I'd expect at least 1080p from an 84" screen.

The 770 was the perfect size! If they could squeeze a little bit bigger screen in there, that would be great, too!

Someone has 106" panels already, so I think it's a musthave for true highest-end pocketable device. With Quad-HD res ofcouse, 1080p is for kids

Did you notice that the N97 screen (640 x 360) is exactly quarter-HD (720p HD is 1280x720).

So perhaps we can hope for quarter-1080 in the n900? (1080 HD is 1920x1080, so quarter-1080 would be 960x540). That would be a sweet-spot for a tablet I think.
