checked all the PC Worlds in the North east and Cumbria this afternoon, and there was one pre-owned N810 at Teesside, and a N800 which they could not get of the display at sunderland, and that was it.

I world at PCW and I managed to get one what a bargin. I didnt realise until a couple of days after the price went down, and it was the best £80 Ive spent in a long time. Basically they are clearing though all the old stock of handhelds, and anything thats a .97 is clearance which means that they are generally fairly hold to get hold of. I think the stock has pretty much gone throughout the pcworld stores now of the N810s and N800s, but if you can find one, go for it .

Got mine, but MAN i had to jump through hoops to get it!

Went into PC World, asked about the N800 (the older model) as they are doing a notverywellpublised deal for £40 (instead of £150). They (local branch) didn't have one, but there was one in Romford (20 miles). So i had them look up the newer model. They (local branch) had one, a boxhasbeenopenedsoitscheaper one. So they went to look for it 'out back'. 20 mins later and suddenly it had been 'been thrown out a long time ago as it didn't work'. [Dr Evil] Riiiiiight....[/Dr Evil]

However there was a newer one in Cambridge (40 miles), so in the Cherk and off i go, calling that stores number repeatedly as i drive. No answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer.

F'k it, not going to risk it. Let's get the older one from Romford. No answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, BUT then a helpful bloke who went to look. Nope its an ex display model and shagged, cracked, and broken.

FAWK!!!!

Turned around. Again. Called the Cambridge store all the way home. No answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer, no answer.

3 hours i tried Cambs with no joy.

Went back to local store to have them look up alternatives. Talked to different bloke. manager type with the appearance of a clue (true as it turned out).

"Oh yeah, i know where our one is, let me go get it"!

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

5 mins later, and £80 lighter, i have what i went in for. 4 hours later.

Epilogue: Got the box home. Took everything out... except the battery.

C0CK!!!

Back to shop, see manager bloke (with a clue). Bit of haggling, he agrees £17 back as thats about what a battery costs. However, he then just hands me a £20, and says "job done".

OK!!

Got an N810 last week Tuesday but it was a mission to get it.

Went to PCW Wolves last monday for me and asked if they either N800 or N810 in stock. They said no and checked local stores.. Junction 9 M6 had an N800 which was incomplete so they wouldn't sell it and stoke PCW had N810 which they would sell. Drove from wolves to stoke to pick it up only to find it was bolted to a display so they wouldn't sell it, claimed that they didn't tell anyone in wolves they would sell it as it was a display model and also it was an N800!!!! They checked at stoke to see local stocks and saw that PCW selly oak in brum and cov showed 1 each in stock and so did Currys in brum.

Went to currys in brum and yes they had 1 but no i couldn't have it for £80. They were willing to sell it for £320 and told me very snottily that pcw were ridiculous in selling it so cheaply so i quickly left. Went to selly oak where they couldn't find it but did try and transfer stock from currys brum but couldn't get through on the phone (PCW and Currys will very rarely answer calls), and then to Cov where they said with a smile "we've been looking for that for ages and if we find it the staff will have it".

I was extremeley pissed off at this point so on the Tuesday went back into PCW wolves and complained about being sent to Stoke. I requested that they transfer the one in stock at currys in brum. They said they couldn't get it sent over as it was discontinued stock so I said that I didn't want it sent over, just allocate the stock to wolves so it could be paid for there and then and then picked in Brum.

So..they did this and i paid for it in Wolves (£80)...went back to currys in brum and asked for the N810. The manager who i spoke to the day before and was a bit of a w*nker sent someone to get it for me and i handed over the receipt!!! The look on his face was priceless when he saw the price i paid and muttered something about cpw wolves uner his breath before handing it over.

I reckon it cost me an extra £30 in petrol but even at £110 all in it's an absolute bargain.

Result!!!!!

Anyone looking for one check Currys and Dixons as well as PCW as they are all part of the same group

does anyone know how the devices can be removed from the display stands. I know of two stores which have a display N800, but are unable to sell as they are unable to remove the device from the Nokia display stand.

Happy for PMs, if someone knows, but feels it is a bit sensitive for the forum!

i don't know any special tricks, but here's what i'd try:
CROW BAR! (i'm only half-joking. if you break the battery cover, someone here in the forums can probably hook you up with a replacement, or you could BUY one for as much as £40 and you'd still be getting a FANTASTIC deal on the tablet, overall!)

if it's glued on, maybe there's some kind of solvent you could use to loosen it. acetone? goo-gone (brand name citrus-smelling stuff for getting gum out of your hair and solving other sticky problems)?

again, the price is so sweet that even if you have to pay them before trying to remove it from the stand yourself, and there's a risk of breaking it, it might be worth the risk! if i didn't live in the US, i'd already be there trying brute force on that little guy.

so, i gather nokia manufactured the display stand. is this correct? will they sell you the stand WITH the device? it's not like they have any other use for it, right? you could take it home and carefully deal with it in your garage with your tools and have your friends take a crack at it. that's what i'd do--if i had a garage, that is...
and friends....
