I just realized that it might be worth trying again after the 1.1 firmware release. Not optimistic but will try now.

Good luck with that.

If it doesn't work, may I suggest what I did in my Corrado, as a work around. I have an old Pioneer (tape deck, w/cassette-mini plug adapter), and use the cassette adapter to connect my BT enabled Garmin 360, and connect the phone to the Garmin. I also have the Garmin installed in my sun visor via straps/Bracketron cradle (it works for me, as it is hardwired to power, and "hidden" when parked).

Cheap way to upgrade, plus give you GPS and BT.

Yes, I might do something like that for the other family car, but I won't do anything in my car, since I am getting a new one soon and want to keep my options open.

As it is today, most of the bluetooth stuff already works. It's only the contacts that will not be transferred to the radio. Also, the only numbers I'd call out from the car is stored in the car stereo's log of incoming numbers. I don't recognize the numbers and I can't dial out (unless via the incoming log) but the main functionality works.

The main functionality being accepting the call and say "sorry, driving, call you back later". :B

Yeah, I perform all my dialing via the phone anyway, even when connected via BT. Its just faster (less buggy). Mic is really good (so I'm told) on the AVIC.

Mmm. No. The firmware update didn't magically fix the transfer contacts issue by adding more backward-compatibility. Hmm. I wonder if that is something that I could fix myself. The protocol can't be that advanced.

Mmm... Yes.
I'm currently oogling a Volvo V50, and there I can't easily insert an aftermarket car stereo anyway. So a "thin" solution like Avic 500 might be the way to go.

Or something cheaper. :B

I hear ya...just do a "(your brand here) NAV unit" that has BT. Then go with the headphone cable into the AUX port for your HU.

I only have a pic of my Droid, but imagine a Garmin/TomTom/Magellan/etc. in its place:

Visor mount eliminates the need of having to "hide/remove" the unit everytime you leave the car.
