How is everyone jacking up their N900 so bad so early on. What on earth are you all doing to this thing?

Since you both seem to know a lot about Linux in general.
Can you tell me what directories to wipe to get everything that the N900 didnt come with off?
(Sorry if it seemed to be fighting. I wasn't intending to; I was intending to be a little sarcastic though. With a smiley )

Can't help with that as my N900 is stuck behind the queue of incompetence and cancellations.

For the extreme wipe, follow the instructions to flash both the firmware image and the eMMC image on this thread:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=34988

As far as I can tell, that should cover everything. I don't know if it's risky, or if you have to do them in a particular order, or even if it works. Best check elsewhere before doing it, and use that thread a starting point to the elsewhere.

Ha, just experiencing serious bugs (and horrible battery life) trying to test/solve some things before considering it defective and losing my N900 for 10 or more days while Nokia replaces it
That and noticing apps wont clean install on their own so wanted to clean house as it were.

I'm picking up on this old thread as I've just sold my N900 and would like to simply wipe my personal information.

I'm a bit scared of doing the flash of the firmware image and the eMMC as I am a complete noob and would want to brick the device right before selling it...

So my question is, is it safe to use the "rm -r /home/user/.*" in xterm ?

Thanks for your help and thanks to the community in general for the last 3 months and my N900 experience ! It is a good device but I'm too much of a noob to appreciate it

Yes. Removing files in /home/user is perfectly safe. After doing so, reflash the device for a nice clean N900.

have to rebump this, sorry.

i am going to be putting my n900 on ebay (need the money) asap, and need to wipe all my info off and go back to default factory settings. i dont want any way for my info to be restored or brought back once it's sold. i know NOTHING about linux or X terminal, so is there a quick or @ least somewhat easy way to do this? i apologize early on for my noobness, but any help i can get would be appreciated.

Hi Guys,

I've just tried the rm option.
I then received this message :
rm: cannot remove '.' or '..'
rm: descend into directory '/home/user/.activesync'?

should I let it descend ?

Thanks !
