you are not the only one experiencing the skype auth problem:
after working nicely for over a month skype gives me 'authentication failure' for the last few days (after PR1.1?!). the problem occurs when connecting via wifi as well as cellular connection.
skype login works fine when perfomed with the same login data from skype client on other machines. deleting and reentering account data on the n900 doesn't do the trick either.

workaround:
as already pointed out by someone, deleting the account, signing in with a different account and vice versa enables you to successfully login with your original account again.
remark: when trying to login with the temporary/helping account, i failed signing in with 'not signed in'.
