Reboot (or "killall systemui" as root) is required to activate and deactivate buttons. It is mentioned in the package description.

I've seen couple of requests for this and its useful feature to have on flights or when you have real sucky reception and you wanna save little power and use net over wlan instead.

Find the app here: http://maemo.org/packages/view/cell-modem-ui/ and current instance here: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...modem-ui/0.2-1

Package is available in extras-testing.

More details available in my signature as well.

Its also missing an icon currently, and I really suck at graphics, feel free to contribute!
this is excellent, but any chance that we have a small app where you can deactivate bluetooth, wlan, gsm and gps, all separately within one window, for example via checkboxes from the status bar? Sounds like your app is a first step towards that.

I hope that this will come together with the "deep sleep" script snippets. What I'm looking for is a kind of extended mode switcher widget, a "profiler" sorts of that brings all this stuff together.

tuminoid, could you post here when the applet version is availible? I really prefer software based methods of accessing a command. (Still great as is)

Ideally, it would be awesome to be able to activate the power key button options via a gesture or something, but I'm sure in good time something like that will become available.

New version changes "Disable Cellular" to "Tablet mode" and "Enable Cellular" to "Phone mode" and changes icons.

I'm sure some code has been changed also.

Great little applet here.

I liked the original icons better - phone vs. crossed-out phone made a lot of sense. I'm not sure all users (particularly new users) get the meaning of 'tablet mode'. It's not entirely clear that this simply means 'phone disconnected'.

I must agree. I like the icons but it may not make sense to many people.

Thanks for input, I'll give it some thought. Perhaps a red cross over phone would make more sense to everyone. I have a long history with Tablets myself so it biases my view to think the Tablet mode is obvious.
