I chose the N900 simply b/c I was impressed! I am a gadget lover at heart, and I have owned many revolutionary phones, UMPCs, and the like. After the iPhone, I was no longer searching for a phone solution. I know the iPhone is flawed, but I appreciated so much about it's innovation, and sexiness. I was tired of getting different smartphones, only to discover something 'smarter' down the line.

Then came the N900. I wasn't looking for a new phone, in fact I just recently purchased my new iPhone 3G. But when I read the specs, and understood that the N900 was truly something to behold...I did just that. I ordered one after much research and debate. I usually have some level of buyer's remorse, but with the N900, that has not been the case.

I am a professional basketball player, entrepreneur and techie, all rolled into one. Because I travel playing in Europe during the fall/winter and in the WNBA in the summer, I need technology that will assist me in living this unique lifestyle, run several businesses as well as parent a 10 year-old daughter that travels with me.

Much of what I do, is a collaboration with employees, or networking in the cloud. Having access to a true internet experience via the Maemo browser makes this possible. I find myself on my phone more, and my laptop less.

Yes, the N900 is in an early phase...but so far SO GOOD!!!

Copied and pasted from the last time this question was asked:

I needed to replace my phone/device. I researched the market and found something I'd never heard of called Maemo.

I fetched up here asking questions, and the community took me in and made me welcome. I bought the n900 because I fell in love with the community.

Then, when it arrived, I fell in love all over again - with the device.

I don't kid myself either is perfect, but I like it at maemo.org. And I've been lucky enough with my n900 to have no serious problems, and I still feel that thrill of excitiment every time I find something new to do with it.
I wrote that nearly a fortnight ago and I still stand by it. N900 has the combination of a device with a nearly perfect hardware spec, software I will never get tired of because it will go on developing, and a community that offers support, help and a massive learning experience with humour and patience. In fact, I love it all even more now than before.

Actually 2 things:

- linux
- screen resolution

I came from a nokia 7710, with touchscreen and already a much higher screen resolution than the 320x240 must devices have. When the HTC HD2 was roumered to be an android phone I wanted to for that one. Unfortunately it wasn't an adroid phone after all but fortunately the n900 came around the block. But today the motorola milestone would be a good alternative....

I haven't got the N900, but if I choose it it's because it has the potential to develop, and the user community will keep it alive as it has with the N8xx series.

BTW, in case you haven't taken the poll of which platform you're coming from, please do so:

Hello Everyone,

I currently have a Blackberry Bold and would like do switch to a new platform. I was open to analyse all option in the market, except Iphone.

After researching a lot, I stucked between the Droid and the N900.

Android of course, is much more mature right now and have a lot of stable features and tons o apps ready to install. Milestone hardware is not as robust as n900, but has almost same capabilities and size is more pocketable.

But, after thinking a lot, I realized n900 is like someone here said, It's a baby with super powers, still don't know how to use all of it, but is learning fast.

I will Bet on maemo project and hope it can grow in the market and fix some issues as soon as possible.

Better maping and portrait issue are the major stuffs as far as I can see.

I own a datacenter services provider based in Atlanta and Brazil, if there is anything we can help the community in terms of hosting and infra-structure, please let me know. I will be glad to sponsor with anything needed.

I'm excited to see where this big community project can go!

To finish this thread, can you guys share why you choose the n900?

Cheers from Brazil,

Geraldo Ramos

Been planning to upgrade for the last one year. Research quite a lot. Got the N900 for:
- hardware & keyboard
- Linux (open nature)
- Internet browser
- VOIP (Skype integration)

Two month ago I thought I would buy the MotoDroid (well..Milestone since I'm in Italy..) but after a really painful decision I decided for the N900. I was curious over Maemo, I was impressed by how powerful the device was. I wanted to navigate flash sites easily. N900 was the best choice. I used to have an iPhone 2g, but it was too easy to use. I don't like things that are too much easy..as if I'm too stupid to use something else...
