what do u use this phone for then ?

i wouldnt say your a glass half full person, your a person that doesnt use the functions this phone has.

i am really not trying to have a pop at you at all revd.

but i need mobile mail/gps and it doesnt function as well as it should. it really doesnt. this is an issue , most people that have this phone need these functions (esp email), it could be as important as £20,000 to my business if i miss a quote and cant deal with it.

the same can be said for the phone working correctly and the battery sucking dry to quick.. this is also not perfect

I'd love to see MMS as well as all the default applications supporting portrait mode.

I use the modest mail client without any difficulty or problems at all. It works for all I want it to.

I use the calendar, and keep my work appointments on it, in a personal code. I manually synch them to the groupwise: I can't do so automatically as the NHS won't allow connecting any device to its network for data-protection reasons. I can, however, catch up with my groupwise email and calendar any time thanks to the always-on connection.

I use leafpad for taking quick notes, and the pdf reader for reading documents for both NHS purposes and my msc. I read books with fbreader, watch videos, listen to music, podcasts and Test Match Special streamed.

I chat to friends via skype - either using IM or voice call. I've never wanted to use video-calling on any device: I have no wish to be seen when slouching at the end of the day. I read and post to twitter using mauku, and the twitter conversations plug-in. I'm currently testing witter to see whether it's right for me. Sometimes I pop into #maemo using xchat.

I make occasional sketches in sketch, and have used liqtorch, gonverter and the stopwatch. I listen to my mp3 collection in the car using the fm transmitter. I have even used the voice recorder to take memos in an emergency.

I take photos: every day I post a photo to my scrapbook. 95% of those are taken with my n900. Sometimes I upload direct using pixelpipe, or upload direct to flickr using the sharing facility. I have taken short videos, but not really explored that potential. I post occasionally to my LJ using mastory.

I have a handful of basic games should I still find myself bored. And when stressed, I play with liqflow.

Occasionally, I make phone calls and send texts, too!

I freely admit there are features of this phone I don't use: I've never had any use for GPS. It's been there on my last two devices. I think I used it twice in three years. I actually prefer maps. But I recogise that really is a personal preference.

I don't use game emulators - despite my creative imagination, I have little experience of games. Still trying to work out how to play supertux!

Obviously there is still an awful lot to this device I have yet to explore. But I don't think it's fair to say that I'm not using it. And I can do all that on one day's charge easily.

well kathy you are a lucky one - i have no chance of using my device all day.(i carry a spare battery- nightmare charging both every day) and the email sucks,-you obviously dont need it in the same way..

and by the reponses the only lucky one

one day you may just need a gps- there are very very valuable sometimes.(some days i have to walk around london to many locations better to have on a phone than a seperate device- i still use my iphone for that) even when i use my tomtom in the car, i still need to use my iphone gps as it is online and can tell me about trouble routes

Well, you can't expect a lot of people without gripes to post to a thread called "your biggest gripe".

no just revd.

seriously nothing is perfect, we all have gripes about everything, its about being objective and productively critical.

how can we help the n900 by all saying "yeahh its great it does everything well- yeaaah"

Email works great for me. Maps works great if you have a 3g connection, which came with my phone. I surf all the time, nokia messaging pushes emails to me all day, battery takes me through the day, and never had a reboot. Media player has 1700 mp3 at 330kbits, album art shows up just the way it should.

and the photos it takes are exceptional for a phone.

I must be a half full person also.

Thank you for finally seeing and believing what I have been saying. For my use-case, the n900 is a near-perfect phone.

I recognise that there are things missing for other people: mail-for-exchange is, I am told, sludgy. The Maps app needs work - I take people's word that it is inadequate. There are people for whom MMS is an important function.

All these things and more are important to different people with diferent use-cases. If your device is missing one that is essential to you, I hope it will soon be remedied.

But please accept that it is not because I don't use the device that it is ideal for me - just that my needs and its functions dovetail rather neatly. There are things I'd like to see - most of them will come from the community rather than Nokia. But I really don't have any 'gripes'.
