Jabber is out of the box in the N900, like skype.

I'm having the same problems , tried calling another skype account I made to test. the account that is calling has decent audio, the one being called very bad audio.
tested using the n900, a computer, two different wifi's and the 3g connection. Tested all the different combinations (including callign with computer to n900 and calling with n900 to computer); problem is very structural. I'm hoping it can be solved soon.

I've tested SIP (not skype, true SIP) many times on N900, and sound was incredibly good, better than on a real phone with a linksys ATA adapter. And my wifi is set to 10mW, not 100.

it seems the reported bug is phone dependant? will a reflash solve the problem?

The problems I faced with some VOIP providers were mainly a huge delay, 4 to 5 seconds, but with skype that doens't happen, although the rates are not the best, the quality is.

Meh, I'd say its carrier/provider/infrastructure dependent. VoIP quality suffers, and is not recommended on circuits where latency starts reaching 125-150ms. Speed tests via speakeasy.speedtest.net reach that alone, without adding the additional hops going thru SIP provider's authentication, proxies, pbxs, and trunks.

Even the encryption on your local WiFi will add overhead, depending on your router's ability/processing power.

Could you please inform me about setting for SIP provider like Nonoh.net, whatever I tried with my Nokia N900 I could get call at all
Thanks
