Okay, i have to rephrase a bit: i don't suspect that the whole maemo will turn into an official channel, but i do suspect (and hope) that Nokia will sooner or later have an official maemo channel here inside the maemo.org.

Anyway i think it would be wise to face the fact that it's very likely that more and more newbies will com. If they're not handled properly, they might just frustrate the older very valuable veterans at the forums, so it might be very good to start thinking about ways to lighten the burden (which i am sure you are already thinking of). I continued a bit on the other thread i linked to above what i think would be a good first step (on this communication matter).
