But wasn’t the OS designed for Landscape mode like the previous tablets??????? Some apps like the call app switch over to portrait mode through resolution switching or something. Just saying that I thought the desktop would of been hard set to landscape so its funny to see it switch to portrait.

Eg: the iphone. Have you even seen the iphone desktop in landscape mode?????

If they do enable portrait mode I'd personally like to scroll between screens vertically! Try swiping on your own phone! The side-to-side swipe in (simulated) portrait mode feels kinda awkward but swiping from top to bottom and vice versa feels great This way the looped wallpaper would still work, even tho if it's a wallpaper with distinct orientation it would unfortunately be tilted. However abstract looped wallpapers would still look really cool What do you think about this?

It would be a challenge to switch between landscape and portrait without messing up the desktop, might be it has to store 2 different sets of layout?

No offence, but your post title is misleading: a bug in the firmware (and a much-discussed one at that) doesn't imply that Nokia is going to officially support portrait mode, as the OP suggests. For that matter, I wouldn't get too excited about it. I'd like it as much as the next guy, but doing it properly isn't as easy as you might think.

Most of the icons, widgets and shortcuts and so on are fairly square, so if you were to define a centerpoint for lets say a contact the phone could just rotate the contact icon 90 degrees when the phone turns into portrait mode!

If you guys get stuck in portrait mode. There is a way to fix it. Just close all apps apart from phone. Then lock the phone (double press power button or use side lock slider) then when the phone is locked press the power button once and the "Slide to Unlock" screen appear. Make sure your phone is in landscape while u slide it and it will go back into landscape mode
