It's funny... I know people who swear by their N97s. Guess whatever complaints some have are not absolute.

sorry not aimed particularly at you (grumps312) but other posts and threads. People are on here to share the joy (and pain) of maemo nokia devices. Some will hate these devices but most will love them. If ur the later then lets try to make this forum a positive benefit that we can use to encourage Nokia to provide apps we want and bugs fixes quickly.
To those that slag off the Nokia brand/maemo devices, as stated sod off cos we love em

We need to know the "pain" or "hate" so we can improve. We cant just view hate and complains as annoying posts or threads. They may be annoying, but they offer important user feedback. Instead of getting annoyed by these threads that complain we should look at it and see the problem and fix it. Not everything is always negative. We can't forget history, because if we forget history we will never learn from the past.

I like the n900. No, I love it. But I bought it for what it is, not who makes it. I'm not one of those brand loyalty people who buys whatever 'my' company produces without thinking (just as well when you look at Nokia's ramge! ). But to ask me now if I will ever buy another? I could say I think it extremely unlikely I would ever buy an Apple product. But even then I can't say 'never'. Who knows who'll be making what in ten years time?

People are so prone to these global statement "I will never ever..." "That's finished me with..." Life is long and markets and manufacturers change.
Articulated well what I was thinking, RevdKathy. I stuck with Nokia devices in the past because I was familiar with S60 (v2/v3/v5), bought lots of applications over the years and they worked as I needed to. The fact that they were made by Nokia was icing on the cake, frankly. Same reason I bought my second-generation Zune 80GB - I had a Toshiba S60 before it which the first generation Zune was based on and I really liked its interface, even if it was not as flexible as my old iRiver H320 with Rockbox.
The chance to get a pocket computer with Linux that could double as a phone was just what I needed. Plus, I had a sizable chunk of GC $$$ on Amazon.com

Feedback is one thing. Harping on incessantly on how much you hate the N900 and Nokia is another. If you really want to make a difference, this platform gives you unprecedented access to the improvement process. Brainstorms, bug reports and access to lots of very clever peeps that can develop solutions if they see a need.

Starting threads over and over again just to complain about the EXACT SAME THING is just plain annoying and makes the signal to noise ratio on this forum really difficult to deal with.

I have to agree there. There were some aspects of the N97 that annoyed me to no end but I did not hate it. It just felt so much less....fabulous than my prior device that accidentally got killed - an E71. I mean, I sold an E61i and an N95 to get the E71 and it felt like I did the right decision. Camera was rubbish but with a few firmware updates it was decent. I did not regret getting the flagship but I was rather indifferent towards it.

positive feedback of pain fair enough but the amount of ridiculously negative posts on here does yer nut in!
There have been a few (hundred lol) threads on what to improve and wanted apps etc. Theres also a bug reporting site. We need a 'Whingers and moaners' sub category lol.

The thing with Nokia is if you don't like their device before the firmware update, you won't like it after either. I'll probably buy another Nokia maemo product.

I usually prefer Nokia because of good cellphone design - connectivity, voice, user interface.

Now it is open Linux platform and I am replacing my old Palm m500 + Nokia 6133 (no pain with moving from device to device my DB, addressbook and applications anymore - at least I think so today)

However, I am open to any another brand and if Nokia doesn't deliver that two options then I chose an another vendor which will provide that my requirements.

See, that is the thing. Buy not based on what the device may be in the future but what it is. Reasonable expectations and all that
The only things that really gave me pause were MMS (and fMMS sorted that for me) and custom profiles (still a wip).

if no update to maemo 6 it may well be the last product, all the other competitors (android, apple, and i sure palm) are doing it.

maemo is nokis OS for the future. so i fully expect it like past tablets.
