Had my N900 a couple of months now, no protectors or cases or anything. It's been lobbed around all over the place and is holding up perfectly fine

I'm not using protection. Never do. My N810 is still as good as new, and the N900 really does not show any signs of use. The earpiece (?) collects dust, as do the edges.
I did try a screen protector (nice fit and all) but it spoiled the look for me, so I took it off.

I used my N900 without protection and got some small scratches in less than a month under right thumb (where all the web page scrolling happens), because of my girlish, long fingernails.

Fast check on my previous phone HTC Tytn (without screen protection) confirmed that the screen was full of scratches, so I decided to buy the protecting film.

Cheapest and fastest one (Insmat) was in local operator store where I bought the phone, 2 for only 5 euros. Installation was easy and went perfectly at first run. I couldn't believe, that the protector just went on almost by itself after reading user experiences from forums.

The protector itself works like a charm. Surface is bit harder than the original screen so it's a bit less sticky, if I remember correctly. Slide also fit almost perfectly and I had hard time to even notice the extra layer on the screen right after work.

There's no holes other than the speaker, so it might cause some problems with sensors and camera, but I haven't noticed anything. Without screen on there is some color effect on the screen, kind of like oil in water, but usually it isn't visible.

Long post and almost off topic. =/ Well anyway, I'm happy for buying this 'cause the screen feels bit better and it takes some weight off your shoulders. =)

E: After 7 months I decided to buy a better screen protector because the surface in cheap one took some damage in only few months. Damage didn't go through the film so it still protected n900 screen, but it was bit awkward to use after scratches.

I had used it for 2 months without a screen protector. No scratches or dirt.

Last week I received a Brando N900 screen protector as a gift and applied it. No problems with touchscreen sensitivity, colors or brightness, though I feel that it attracts dust and dirt more than the bare screen.

I don't like screen protectors. So everytime I get a new device I head to
http://www.raedan.de/ order one of their nice cases and be fine.

The mobiles are looking like their a new this way.
