Ability is one thing, but they might still be able to save a few pennies by not putting such a circuit in. Not saying that all do, but it's quite conceivable.

The ebay ads will say if it has a safety IC. I did get some phone batteries once which did not, and after emailing the seller, was sent better ones. It is easy to test. Short the terminals with a amp-meter (briefly!) 0A is good, ~10A is bad.

7 hours when I would get at least 14 hours with the origihnal battery given the same (light) usage pattern. (And yes, I can run it down in 3 hours too if I try...

The other thing is it shows 100% charge then suddenly dies. I have no issue with aftermarket batteries if they are sold as such and the buyer can make and informed choice, but this one was sold as genuine. That is fraud, no two ways about it. Unfortunately I am now on an overseas trip (hence the purchase) and can't do much about it.
