I'm not sure - Stantum's original technology was a new design for resistive touch screens which allowed them to handle multi-touch. According to the comments on this article which shows a demo of the current Stantum multi-touch, there's still a hardware component to their technology. This would rule it out for the N900.

And he is still correct. The video shows it working on a new type of resistive screen, one that has been been designed by Stantum and is not used in any production device.

To implement that on the N900 you would need to upgrade the touch screen lcd, the contoller chip, the device kernels and god knows what else. Not exactly possible as a firmware upgrade

Those Stantum resistive touchscreens are different from other resistive touchscreens. The fact that they support multitouch doesn't mean that every resistive screen supports it and chances are the N900 has just a regular resistive screen.

He says at the end of the video

"..you cannot adapt our technology to existing phones.."

2:20 of the video. This after he says that they're working with major manufacturers and the screens are ready.I took to mean that existing screens cannot make use of their tech.

I don't think the current implementations using 4 wires can ever be converted to multitouch. Since we are only getting the resistance between X, Y I can't imagine a possibility to actually identify multiple inputs without a major hardware change. I believe the basic working principle of the current touchscreen is that you read the X and Y resistance quite similar to two variable resistors and you get a coordinate on the screen. Min and Max can be determined using the calibration and pre-programmed in the factory. No amount of software will make it multitouch since it won't have the necessary data to work with.

I think like MMS - Mutltitouch is just overrated.

I don't miss MSS - And I use a stylus a lot when surfing so how do you multitouch with a stylus in one hand?

@marktold, I have to disagree with you regarding MMS being overrated. It's pretty common in the Asian countries and it's usually free to receive an MMS. As for multitouch yes, it's a bit hyped up. Then again there are some advantages of having multiple inputs specially when you need to zoom, resize and provide more intuitive widget controls to the user. Multitouch is not a deal breaker as some point out, but it definitely is a bonus which I personally don't want if it means sacrificing accuracy over for.
As for the Qt having multitouch support, it's a must in any modern GUI framework and I love the pace and quality Qt is going forward.
