The problem with phonelink is:

1) send SMS only, not receive
2) uses GPE Contacts instead of Maemo's built in Contacts.

That's what I'd like to see in an SMS app for Maemo. Send & Receive, using the built in Contacts app.

A tool for copying (backing up?) Nokia phone's phonebook via bluetooth would be useful too.

Will Phonelink do that, or could the Gnome Phone Manager be ported to Maemo?

Cellphone Tool appears to have more functionality, but also requires Gnokii. It uses the built in contacts database.

Can anyone do a step by step of how to get Gnokii on os2008 so we can get these apps working?

So frustrated

I'm checking on the status of this. Are there any 2008 apps that allow you to both send and receive sms on an n8x0 that's tethered to a phone, or can you still just send them?

Phonelink with Gnokii is a nice app to have - can call any number from the N800 and since I have a bluetooth headphone connected to the phone, I dont really have to take out the phone at all from pocket - just use my N810 as a controlling tool - for SMS and calls.

One major request - I hope phonelink app is bettered in terms of GUI design to include a keypad to use to call so one doesnt have to slide out the keyboard always.

This way one can use the N800 or N810 one handed to make a quick call.
A nice number pad calling screen (like on the Skype app) would be very much more handy... as well as a history of calls made - so that one can easily re-dial (nto always do I have callers in my contacts list ...)
